If the name for a second ISP account differs from the name for the first
ISP account then no problem. Just add a line of the same form as the
above to the secrets file. Otherwise use the pppd remotename option
to differentiate the ISPs, e.g.,

myloginname ispone mypassword
myloginname isptwo mypassword

using "remotename ispone" for the first ISP and "remotename isptwo"
for the second. Use the ppp "file" option to keep the pppd and chat
options and scripts for each ISP separate. Read "man pppd" to find out
more about the "file" option.

Subject: fsck errors on start up - signal 11
Date: Tue, 05 Sep 2000 14:12:42 +0000

Hello,
Have a RedHat 6.1 box which finds errors while checking the root
partition. So I run fsck manually on the root partition, and it prompts
me to fix the following:

Free blocks count wrong ...
Free inodes count wrong ...
Directories count wrong ...

I answer y to each to fix the errors, but I still get the following
error when fsck ends:

/dev/hda4: 118531/876096 files (1.0% non-contiguous), 1030058/1750140
blocks
warning fsck.ext2 for device exited with signal 11.

The user of this machine says that he shutdown the machine normally. Is
this error unrecoverable? Or do you need more information???
Thanks,
Ken

Hi all,
I want to login from a remote host to my Linux server, with all the

still can't get the idea what and where to start with. Are there
anything in Linux that does this and what specifically should I get on

Where do I go to get contact information for a .co.uk domain?

Look in the dhcp mini-howto

Here is a sample /etc/dhcpd.conf file from this howto:

Why can't you do 'make xconfig'?

The '/usr/src/linux' directory is usually a soft link to e.g.
'/usr/src/kernel-source-2.2.15/' or whatever the kernel tarball
decomposed into.

The running kernel is usually located in '/boot/vmlinuz' or just
'/vmlinuz' (check your LILO configuration in '/etc/lilo.conf').

To get the version number of the running kernel, use 'uname -r'.

I would like to bridge the Windows DirectPlay gap with my open source
(LGPL) library OpenNL (Open Network Library). I have a low level library
that compiles on Windows and Unix/Linux, but I have not had any offers
from Mac programmers to port it to MacOS.

The next step is a high level API that is similar to DirectPlay, and a
real-time voice API that uses open source code codecs.

Well, by the look of things, I have been put in my place. I understand your
problem and will do my best to help. If you have a good read of squid.conf
(usually well documented), you see that you can set it up so that uses must
be authenticated in order to use the proxy.
Another approach would be to stop the ip address stealing. If you are using
DHCP, you can make sure that each ip address is associated with the correct
nic id.
If you need more infor, just emal me as can certainly help.

P.S. I reacted such, as I have had my web restricted in the past, and feel
it unjust. But if it's your job, then what can I say.

Hi,

I'm using Netscape and I've recently upgraded to 4.74 in an attempt
to overcome a few problems I'm having with it, but in vain...
Could someone please help me?

1) Netscape always complains that it doesn't find "java40.jar",
but it is in /usr/lib/netscape/java/classes, which is in the
CLASSPATH variable. The file is readable and all directories
leading to it are readable and executable.

2) I'm not sure if this is related to the problem above, but often
images are displayed all wrong, look like garbage. RedHat has
issued a bug report on a memory leak in Netscape 4.72, which I
thought was this problem, but upgrading to 4.74 didn't help.

3) I can't use the address book. When I'm composing a message, I
press the address book button, select an address by highlighting
it and when I press the "To:" button Netscape immediately quits.

Thanks for any help!

Kylix is supposed to be released this year. Its a Deplhi/C++

Personally i have used Delphi for several years, and its
a delicatesse. I had some tries on VB too, but sincerely,
it made me puke and do headbanging against the screen.
VB just sucks, when it comes to serious programming.
Delphi is much more consistent and structured, that makes
programming much easier; more than ever when you have
reached 10.000 lines of total source code :P

Subject: Linux can't find USR PCI hardware modem
Date: Tue, 5 Sep 2000 12:07:36 -0500

Hi,

I recently upgraded my motherboard (the Linux partitions were hosed by my
disk contollers failing) and now I can't initialize my 3-COM PCI
controller-based internal modem. I was able to initialize the modem (and go
online
and surf, etc.) before I swapped the motherboard.

The thing that really gets me is that the modem works fine under Windows
(com5, IRQ 9, I/O 0x1050-0x1057--IRQ holder for PCI steering has my sound
card, my USR/3-COM 56K Fax PCI modem, and Intel 82371AB/EB PCI to USB
Universal Host Controller sharing the same IRQ (9)).

I do a cat /proc/pci and find the IRQ and I/O
values for what I take to be the modem (they are the same values as in
Windows on my dual-boot system with Redat 6.2.14).

Then I type

setserial /dev/ttyS1 irq 9 port 0x1051 autoconfig

There is a link between /dev/modem and /dev/ttyS1.

When I go to Gnome ppp to dial up a connection, nothing happens. Minicom
just sits there too--it seems to think that it has dialed up and connected
but it hasn't--no dialing, handshaking at all, and no "OK" message. When I
run a debug in Redhat Config for the modem, I get the message that there is
an I/O problem. Wvdialconf also says there is no serial port.

When I type dmesg I find the following seemingly relevant lines:

Serial driver version 4.27 with MANY-PORTS MULTIPORT SHARE_IRQ enabled
ttyS00 at 0x03f8 (irq = 4) is a 16550A
ttyS01 at 0x02f8 (irq = 3) is a 16550A
...
Creative SBLive! at 0x1020 on irq 9

When the modem was working before I swapped motherboards, the modem shared
IRQ 12 with the sound card, and the modem was assigned com 5 under Windows.
This setup presented no problems for Linux then. But now Linux can't find
the modem. I've been looking at the MODEM-HOW-TO pages and have to say I'm
still stumped.

Does anyone have any suggestions about some things I might try to figure
this problem out?

Thanks!
