My experience is, that rh70 doesn't run the xfree 4.0.1
server by default, even when it is installed.
One has to:
cd /etc/X11
mv X X.old
ln -s /usr/X11R6/bin/XFree86 X
And note, the configuration is in: /etc/X11/XF86Config-4
(note the "-4").

Subject: apache/mod_perl problem
Date: Thu, 05 Oct 2000 10:14:21 GMT
Hi,
I recompiled mod_perl 1.24 and Apache 1.3.11 on my Slackware 7.0 system
and I get the following error :
Constant subroutine XHTML_DTD redefined at /usr/lib/perl5/constant.pm
line 175.
/bin/apachectl start: httpd could not be started.
this was basically the reason that I recompiled it. It was working fine
earlier. I installed all the perl modules required for slashcode prior
to getting this error. I would be grateful if you could help me out
with this. thanx in advance.

There is probably a link: /dev/modem -> ttyS0 that you could change to
whatever you need. Most of the modem stuff looks for /dev/modem, so it must
be linked to the device you wish (need) to use. This is normally handled by
the modem configuration section of control-panel in Red Hat Linux. YMMV.

I assume that you only use the pointers while they are in scope and that
you check that the malloc()s completed successfully:
void myfunc(void)
{
char *ptr1;
char *ptr2;
ptr1 = (char *)malloc(buffsize_1);
if (ptr1 != NULL)
{
ptr2 = (char *)malloc(buffsize_2);
if (ptr2 != NULL)
{
/* do some stuff with the pointers */
free((void *)ptr2);
}
free((void *)ptr1);
}
}

The size of a pointer is constant. The size of a region _pointed to_ by
a pointer is not - see below...

If memory serves (pardon the pun), the pointer returned by malloc()
"conceals" a field which holds the malloc()ed size. The size of this
field should be system dependent. free() uses this to work out how much
memory to return to the heap.

You might pay by the minute, but the overall price
contains the volume prices of your service provider somehow.
You could be responsible and conserve bandwidth. :)

As you did a server install (I'm assuming RH now) you did not get X
installed.
It's on the installation disk though. install the RPM's that include
XFree86.

If anyone here has configured xsane and sendfax to work properly with
each other (and I'm sure a lot of people have), I'd really appreciate
some pointers. I have been trying for several days to send my first fax

portions, saving the images as files.

I have one hard drive, separated in two partitions : C: & D:
Windows is on C:
I installed Mandrake 7.1 wich has reduced D: and created a new partition for
linux.
Now, from windows I can't access anymore D: , whereas from linux it is well
detected as a FAT32 windows partition.
How can I restore my partition to access it from windows ???

The best (IMHO) approach to acieve what you want is to use PartitionMagic
to partition the disk and then use either LILO or BootMagic as the boot
manager. If you use BootMagic, you install Win98 first then Install
BootMagic, then install Linux remembering to install LILO on the Linux
partition and NOT in the MBR. You can then boot into Win98 and configure
BootMagic to recognise both boot partitions.

Thnks for the suggestions but, as I mentioned, the problem only seems to
occur when printing man pages. Since that's not a thing I do very often,
it's hardly worth worrying about.

C-Kermit:

It lets you see the status of modem control lines ("show comm").
As to controlling modem signals, that's mostly a driver issue.
Kermit can toggle DTR ("hangup"), but RTS is controlled by the
driver (for flow control), and of course CD, DSR, RI, and RTS
are incoming signals. Special effects can be achieved with
creative wiring.
C-Kermit also lets you automate communications tasks with its
scripting language, which includes commands to test modem signals
and variables that return their current status.

I'm trying to get XFree86 to run with a Number Nine
Revolution 3D 128-t2R, and I'm having problems.
During the redhat custom install, it recognizes the card,
monitor (dell D1025TM) and videoram ok.
I've tried clockchip none, ramdac none, no probe,
like it says on the nine.com website.
That didn't work. So I tried all the options of the
above (ie clockchip I5xx ramdac, probe/noprobe. Probe says" failed:
procedding w/
default values".)
When Xconfigurator starts the test-config it pops up with
"There is a problem with your X configuration"
When I look at what RPM's have been installed
the XF86_I128 is installed.
I'm not very good with X. If this weren't a test
workstation I wouldn't even bother with it. But I need
to get this running and be stable.
When I run Xconfigurator
PCI Entry: Number 9|Imagine 128 T2R [Ticket to Ride
X Server: XF86_I128
XFree4 Driver: No match
Any suggestions?

panic: Attempted to kill the idle task!

nothing appears in /var/log/message ever (I grepped every file under

as far as I know should catch panics. Is there a way to get more verbose
