You must have a different Linux than me, because I have only seen rc.conf
in FreeBSD, but typically '/sbin/route -n' would show something like this:
Kernel IP routing table
Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface
192.168.1.1 * 255.255.255.255 UH 0 0 0 eth0
192.168.1.0 * 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 eth0
127.0.0.0 * 255.0.0.0 U 0 0 0 lo
Then if you ever want to connect one to the internet, any other LAN boxes
should point to it with a default route like this:

However, the box directly connected to the internet should not have ANY
default route, except to the internet.

I have run across an occasional problem when I exit KDE to the console and
find that ALL of the consoles are totally blank except for the cursor.
In fact in login screens I do not even see the colored ANSI tux logo.
Everything else still works, the cursor moves when I type and I can enter
commands, I just cannot see what I am typing. If I log in from a
differnet box or startx again, everything is fine there.
I tried 'stty sane' and 'setterm -reset' and neither did any good. I was
not aware of the 'reset' command (symlinked to tset) so I have not had a
chance to try that yet. Does that reset all vt's or just the one you are
on?
I am running Mandrake 7.0 with generic kernel 2.2.17 with ancient S3
Trio64 video.

-u : unbuffered stdout and stderr (also PYTHONUNBUFFERED=x)
-v : verbose (trace import statements) (also PYTHONVERBOSE=x)
-c cmd : program passed in as string (terminates option list)
file : program read from script file
- : program read from stdin (default; interactive mode if a tty)
arg ...: arguments passed to program in sys.argv[1:]
Other environment variables:
PYTHONSTARTUP: file executed on interactive startup (no default)
PYTHONPATH : colon-separated list of directories prefixed to the
default module search path. The result is sys.path.
However, when I leave the dash of I get what I expect:
python try.py help
['try.py', 'help']
Further after setting POSIXLY_CORRECT I also get what I expect:
setenv POSIXLY_CORRECT
python try.py -help
['try.py', '-help']
Thus the question what did I mess up when custom compiling the
interpreter?

I have been getting an error during the make bzImage
stage.
I search around and found out that I need to modify
the
Makefile in /usr/src/linux directory and change the
gcc to kgcc.
However, even after I did that, I still get error from
the make bzImage. Can you tell me what else I need
to modify?
If possible, please send me a copy of the Makefile
with all the necessary
changes so that I can make minework.

Thanks for the suggestion. Really. If I wouldn't want to learn something I
would stick with Windows. I oftentimes forget that there is a huge amount of
docs right there on the machine.

Yes, it is incredibly short. Almost as soon as I press on the button to
connect the connection is made. But why should there be a idle timeout delay
with ISDN? If this is the only way to go, then there must be a way for the
system to recognize every application that tries to get on the internet.
About this, though I have no hint at the moment where to look for
documentation and config files.

Faxmodem without a problem, it seems lik this...
Now I will sen da fax with the sendfax at command and i receive a message
like this "request id is 1 (gtoup id 1) for host localhost"
What is the next step to really send the fax??? Or exist there an other
problem?

Check the man page for "mkisofs" and look at the -R and -r options. The
Rock Ridge extensions allow smylinks, ownership, permissions, long
filenames, and more than 8 levels of subdirectories. Symlinks could be
useful; file ownership and any permission mode other than 555 are
usually more trouble than they're worth. You can actually burn an ext2
filesystem onto a CD, but only a Linux box will be able to read it then.

Define "better" first. MySQL is optimized for the case where most
queries are just SELECTing and not UPDATE or INSERTing. MySQL is
supposed to be faster in general than other database engines, but that
may not be as true as it was. Postgres has transactions, which are beta
in MySQL. There was an article on Slashdot recently that discussed the
question of whether Postgres or MySQL was better, and it generated a
whole lot of flamage.
Bottom line is, do a bit of research on both database engines and use
the one that best fits your needs.

At the lilo boot prompt, type "linux 3".
This should work with most systems. If you're using grub instead of
lilo, I'm sure this is possible, but I'm not sure how, maybe one of
the grub menu options?
Another possibility is booting graphically until X starts, then using
ctrl-alt-F1 to get to the first virtual console.

I prefer PostgreSQL, but it seems the most popular database for Linux
newbies is MySQL (I seem to remember there is an Access-to-MySQL utility
that will create the MySQL database for you - haven't tested it).
I haven't come across a front-end similar to MS Access, but for a web-based
front-end, try http://www.greatbridge.org/projects/phppgadmin/

You need a space before and after your conditional when using the
special "[ condition ]" test construct. In other words, [ a ] is
valid while [a], [ a], and [a ] are all invalid.

Derek is right as far as I know. MySQL and PostgreSQL are both DBMS, whereas
Access is both a DBMS (cough!) and a reporting tool all rolled into one. I
*think* that StarOffice now comes with something similar to Access, although
I haven't seen it firsthand.
I doubt you will be able to just move the Access database from Windows to Linux
since Access uses VB for Access and so has a language all it's own when writing
applications.
