Hi all,
I have to upload a file to the web-server using a http-post operation
with the <input type=file> tag. I looked at lynx, but lynx does not
support the post-operation for file-uploads :-((( Is there an
alternative out there somewhere ??? By the way, I am using RH-linux and
apache as webserver with php.
Thx for your answer,
Miguel

The secret is most likely in the rungetty package, which is a getty
replacement that allows you to spawn programs. You may be able to do it
without, but I would investigate using rungetty.
Read the docs about starting minicom from the command line to dial the
number you want. Once you have that create a wrapper script that you
call from rungetty (i'd recommend making a wrapper script to make sure
that rungetty calls it properly).
call it dial, make it executable
#!/bin/sh
minicom [commands to autodial]
It's been awhile but I used to use rungetty on older pc's to spawn an
AS400 TN5250 screen, a lynx webpage that would allow pager messages to
be sent, and a perl script wrapper that would start and stop a TN3270
session.
Something like
1:2345:respawn:/usr/sbin/rungetty /usr/local/bin/dial tty1
It is fairly straightforward, once you know how to start minicom
automatically from cmdline.

I can get User A to work fine (root also works, but I tend to avoid
using root) but User B core dumps on most Java and Javascript. I've
never been able to figure out what the problem is!

With it compiled into the kernel all you had to do was turn sound on if
you were using Gnome. It already knew what driver to use and didn't need
to be configured since it was a part of the kernel and not a module. It
didn't even need an alias line in /etc/conf.modules because it wasn't a
module.

Works with RPMs only, for the time being:)

Aside from anecdotal stories about tar not handling strange file types
well (pipes?), afio archives can be recovered even if the tape is
damaged. The entire archive will be lost in that case when using tar.

They've been lying about a general release date
for ages. (I have e-mail to back up that
assertion.)
They have also equated wanting to purchase DVDs
and then watch them on a personally-controlled
computer to conducting a campaign of bombings.

That quickly moved me from being a customer-in-

Screw Intervideo. Check out Xine.

It's all I've ever used to watch DVDs. It has
synchronized sound, great video, and gets over
90% of the frames on my Thunderbird 850. It
may not have all of the overhead of LiViD, but
it plays movies beautifully.
(I'm using an old and heavily-modified version
of Xine. It's probably gotten even better.)

Do any of you afio guys know what the -c switch on afio ought to be

I want to replace my computer with newer stuff (this P-200 system is too
slow to be any fun anymore). I'll probably buy parts and build it.
Problem is, I've been out of the loop for so long I don't even know what a
decent Linux baseline system is anymore. So:
Which processor?
Which m/b?
How much and what kind of RAM?
What kind of video/how much video RAM?
I've always liked how easy IDE is but I'd like to get a scanner and a
recordable CD setup so should I switch to SCSI or stick with lower cost
IDE (I don't know jack about SCSI)?
I don't want anything that's bleeding-edge - I just want something faster
and more modern. And I'd like to keep it around $1000 (or less).
This is a system for home use. I don't play any games. I use it mainly
for Internet and some working from home.
And is there a Linux site somewhere which lists suggestions for system
components that will work together (not the hardware validation site)?
Thanks...
Mike

I thought Linux could run woth less memory than Windows. Anyway
this is a comp that I'm just playing with for now but when I'm done it
should be a NT/Linux, so I can get more memory. I'm thinking of either
adding 64 or 128MB.

Subject: PPP Problem - need help urgently please!
I am having an annoying problem with PPP in my Mandrake 7.0. As root, I
can connect to my ISP and various other services, but none of my user
accounts are able to. I can start KPPP, and it appears to behave
normally, making the connection, and indicating that it has connected,
but once it is connected, my web browser can not access anything on the
web. I have set suid on my kppp, but to no avail. These are the
permissions currently on my /etc/ppp directory, and as far as I can tell
they seem correct:
-rw------- 1 root daemon 78 Dec 21 1999 chap-secrets
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Nov 11 1999 ioptions
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 265 Sep 16 1997 ip-down*

drw------- 2 root daemon 4096 Dec 21 1999 peers/
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 47 Dec 18 21:19 resolv.conf
My KPPP is set to: -rwsr-xr-x 1 root root 523380 Dec 18
13:02 /usr/bin/kppp
The PPP files from /usr/sbin seem fine, although I am not sure if they
are actually required in a dial-up modem connection. They are:
-rwx------ 1 root root 150362 Nov 11 1999 /sbin/ipppd*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 18117 Nov 11 1999 /sbin/ipppstats*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 48124 Jan 11 2000 /sbin/ppp-watch*
I have read the "ppp-HOWTO" and have not found the answer to this
problem. If anyone could give me a hand with this, I would be very
grateful. Responses to this NG, or to "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" would be
most appreciated. Thanks in advance, John

IIRC RH 7.0 came with some pre-version of glibc-2.1.3, so
you might upgrade to the final version or glibc-2.2 or go
with glibc-2.1.3 and wait for glibc-2.2.1. Might be the best
if you don't have special requirements.

Do yourself a favor and check out the price of a Pentium motherboard
on eBay or wherever. A couple years ago I was fooling around with
a two 486DX66 cpu's, and eventually replaced them with Pentiums for
under $30 plus shipping.
It was well worth it, and certainly the price cannot have gotten
any higher. You can probably buy a complete box with ps, sd, kbd,
and everything for almost that low these days!
