I don't know perl, but try inside the script to `echo $HOME`
There it is set right :-)
Each script you run is started in a subshell, all shell modifications it
makes are in this subshell. If that script terminates, the subshell is
destroyed. If you want modifications to take effect in your current shell,
you must source the script.

I think it is a limitation of VMware not able to emulate Direct X.

COREL Linux canshow me the windows partitions, and I'm even able to move
or copy a file from my Windows C: dir into Linux in D: I get all my
d/loads this way using my Win98SE free internet access.
Now it's the year 2001 and there are lots of dual-boot PCs now. Why
doesn't microsoft let Windows Explorer 'see' into my Linux partitions?
Does it have somethig to do with the architecture of Windows, or is it
just plain stubborn refusal to acknowledge the non-Redmond OS?

You DON'T need to recompile Apache!
You can get mod_php-4.0.3pl1-1.i386.rpm from http://www.rpmfind.net or use the
'Web Find' in gnorpm to get it for you.
Once you have installed this, amend your httpd.conf file as follows:
<IfDefine HAVE_PHP4>
LoadModule php4_module modules/libphp4.so
</IfDefine>
Change this to:
#<IfDefine HAVE_PHP4>
LoadModule php4_module modules/libphp4.so
#</IfDefine>
Restart httpd ... and the .php files get parsed by php - woo hoo!
Test it with the following scrip in <wwwroot>:

Why not ask why the Win95/95/ME strain can't see NTFS? :)

You can also search http://www.rpmfind.net for the .so file.
It'll list the RedHat packages that contain the file. Just grab the
relevant rpm file, or go to the <insert distro> web site and get the
required package from there.

Hi all,
on this beautifull day I wanted to start this morning with chaning my
RedHat desktop system into a nice Debian system. So first making a boot
and root flop for debian install and then backing up my hd. WRONG
DECISION! When I had to type 'dd if=resc1440.bin of=/dev/fd0' I
accidentally typed 'dd if=resc1440.bin of=/dev/hda' .. I did 'cd /' and
to my surprise all seems okay. Went to /mnt/mydocs.. A lot of hd noise,
lost of weird text, no responses.. I turned off the power button. When
I boot the machine, It shows me the debian bootdisk, as is to be
expected of course. The rescue1440.bin is 2,8 MB big and the beginning
of my hd contains my partition info and then a 300mb windows partition.
When booting toms rescue boot disk, it only recognizes hda1,2 and 4,
while there were originally 6 partitions available. I do have a 1 month
old backup, but would be very pleased when I could recover the data. I
was thinking about just make one new big ext2 partition using fdisk and
then run fsck on that partition. Would this be a right solution? Any
other ideas? Please help..
greets,
Martin

Actually, I have an old dual-boot machine with Windows 95 on it. I am
perfectly delighted that Windows cannot see the Linux partitions.
Anything it can see, it can damage. This way, Windows has to get more
messed up than usual to take out the Linux partitions. (Of course this
does not mean it is impossible for Windows to do that, but it has not
happened in almost 3 years.)
This machine has never had any Microsoftware on it, and never will.

Although it's intended to filter advertising and cookies,
Internet Junkbuster (http://www.junkbuster.com) can be configured
to block specific sites. You have to add the sites manually,
however.

The problem with that is that if you're running xdm (and probably
other x display managers like kdm or gdm) another x process will
immediately spawn and bring up the x login widget again. If you
really want to kill x and have it stay killed, you need to shut
down the display manager, which is what CTRL-R does in xdm.

one or two of the extra stuff in might use it, but you won't suffer if

Do not say urgent New Year's eve.
I do not understand that you see any partitions if you wrote to hda.
I guess you should not attempt the fsck solution.
You could get Findpart at http://inet.uni2.dk/~svolaf/utilities.htm,
do from DOS:
findpart all fp.txt
and insert (not attach) the output into a follow-up to this message.
If you attempt to use the output data for using Linux fdisk (not
recommended for non experts), note that Linux fdisk numbers cylinders
from 1, while other tools, including Findpart, numbers cylinders from
0.

PS. In cases where the MBR contains wrong data, the BIOS might read
the disk wrong. Then Findpart can read directly from the disk. For
primary master this will be:
findpart pm fp1.txt
