If you do an FTP search on gasp (http://ftpsearch.ntnu.no), you certainly
will find a lot of GASP sites that carry the source as well as the
binaries. If your hardware is specific, I am afraid that you will have to
compile it by yourself or pay someone to do it for you (as the other post
mentioned). However, if you are looking for i386 binary GASP, then try to
FTP search it and you certainly will save a lot of money.

I don't know about ALSA or the Gravis, but it should be no problem
getting the AWE64 to work. You need to double check your interrupts and
dma settings. Login as root and run sndconfig and reboot. If you can
use the KDE or gnome midi players, then you might try installing ALSA.

Subject: Whatever happened to ipmasqadm module?
Date: 6 Mar 2001 01:18:10 GMT
Hi everyone,
I am running RedHat 7.0 with the new kernel 2.4.2. This is
box is being used to connect an entire small network to the
Internet. Everything is working great (NAT, Firewall, mail,
etc...) except one thing. Since I am running the new kernel
2.4.2, I am using iptable (netfilter) instead of ipchains in
version 2.2.
I have a web server which is seating in a DMZ (the linux
box has 3 interfaces, one for Internal 172.16.1.0/24, one for
external 199.0.216.222/30, and the other one for DMZ
192.168.1.1/24) behind the firewall (linux) that needs to
accessible by users on the Internet. When I was running
kernel 2.2.18, I use the module ipmasqadm to forward web
traffic that hit the firewall to the web server in the DMZ.
Now that I am running kernel 2.4.2, I no lonoger see the
module ipmasqadm in the /sbin/ directory. Whatever
happened to this module? Furthermore, the linux firewall
is no longer delivering web traffic to the web server in the
DMZ. I would like to have this problem resolved. At
worst, I have to downgrade the kernel to 2.2.18 but I really
the new kernel 2.4.2. Is ipmasqadm is now part of the
new kernel 2.4.2? If it is, what is the command to put
it in my rc.firewall script? Please help.
Many thanks.

Anyone...
Does anyone have any ideas about how to set up astatic route thru a
VPN tunnel?
We are using vtund for the server and client ends, I got the tunnel
set up right and can ping and telnet thru the tunnel from the machines
on both ends.
The question is: I need to know how to route the LAN's on both ends
thru the tunnels as well (or at least one other machine on each end
ie: Win2k SR AD Replication).
Is this even possible or are linux VPN's strictly point to point? or
how do you make the /dev/tunX's public on the corresponding network?
any ideas or thoughts will be appreciated.
Thanx!

Date: Tue, 6 Mar 2001 08:59:59 +0100
I wanted to play a little with devfs, but came about some problems: The
scripts that came with Suse 7.1 seem to be outdated. Both
/etc/init.d/boot.devfs and the patch installed to
/usr/share/doc/packages/devfsd try to access to a file below /sbin/init.d
(which since 7.1 no more exists). Seems they simply shipped the script of an
older distribution without adaption...
Furthermore the patch for the boot script fails in 2 of 3 points.
My question are:
- Are there working patches for Suse 7.1 somewhere?
- Will it work if simply to patch the boot script by myself as the patch
should, or is there a way to force patch to do its job and is it
save?
- Has someone of you experiences with devfs under Suse, he/she likes to
share? _I_ really would apprechiate to hear (actually read) such...

Well, that would seem to be your problem, mostly!

That's OK. You'll find that your machine boots with the / is readonly
mode, and then remounts it readwrite thusly:
mount -wno remount /
so all you had to do was
/sbin/fsck -y /dev/hda5 (for example)
and then the above mount command.

Well, if it's RH 6, then it's not RH 7! Or are you saying it was RH 7
that you are using? If so, then yes, it could be natural. Even a
standard machine can blow chunks out of its root partition, especially
if that's where /var and /home is - which is why one wants to separate
them.

Sounds like you are clean.

Sure there was! But then you never needed to reinstall. rpm should have
told you what was missing or damaged.. if it was in place. And copying
the logs to /home would have saved them.

You don't need any patches. Just
mount -t devfs none /dev
(and run for cover)

Possibly, but you don't care, since all you want to do is try it to see
what it's like.

"Relink all" was not accepted as a command. I couldn't find it in any

there is no such list, because even for each distro it depends on what
you choose to install. but i bet people have tried to compile lists
anyway.
however, best thing is to read an introductory book on linux.
it will introduce you to the common commands, and then if you continue
with it, just use the "man" command to look up all the new things
you'll come across.

hehe, some people call that a feature:)
this happens because your "virtual" screen is bigger than your
actual screen. you should be able to move around on it by moving the
cursor to the edges of the screen.
you change this by editing the /etc/X11/XF86Config file, or perhaps
through your graphical environment.
there is a X howto:
http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/XFree86-HOWTO/index.html
it may be on your system too.
or if you buy a book there'll prolly be a chapter or 2 about X as well.
u can even try: man XF86Config
