it seems like issues with dist tarballs being created improperly keeps coming up again and again. how exactly are these guys being made ? why cant we seem to get consistent behavior here ?
for example, the 3.11 release is (1) missing generated man pages and (2) contains useless autom4te.cache files. `make distcheck` should do all the right things and produce a correct tarball. but it would seem that it isnt being used. i just tested current git and it indeed seems to work with distcheck. -mike
