In Mandrake 8.1 I could compile linkstatic on and X on either. I could compile with linkstatic off and X on oder linkstatic on and X off. Now I have compiled dosemu in Debian 3.0r1 and linkstatic on and X on worked out fine. If it is of interest I can compare the files in the distributions.
