This seems to release the DOS TSR that spools the data to the printer. If I don't do that, printing will not occur no matter how long I wait. However, if I increase the hog value to 2, I don't need to switch back to the shell for immediate printing. For now, I'm using hog value 2, which keeps my CPU up around 86%.
