You have obviously haven't managed to make a lot of sound applications
work then ..... 

This is a standard part of the OSS REAL SB support. It needs to know which
patches (aka FM parameters in the case of OPL based cards) to load, and
this is stored in /etc/std.sb for the OPL cards.
