xdos & kernel 2.1.x

Hi,

 I'm using dosemu 0.98.1. When I want to start xdos with a development
 kernel (2.1.x) I get the following error from xlib:

Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: Client is not authorized to connect to Server
ERROR: X: Can't open display ":0.0"

 However, root can run xdos without this problem.

 Is this a known bug or feature?
 
 I'm sorry if it is a FAQ, but I didn't find the answer when looking at
 the docs. Is there a solution?
