Hi,

 thank you for your response.

All other X-applications that I use *don't* show the same error when
started the same way as xdos. Furthermore, IMO, if it was an X security
issue, even root could not start the application.

However, judging from your mail, that its not an obvious bug or
feature, I tried several changes to my X security settings. I found, that
xdos works after executing xhost localhost (well, I couldve checked
that earlier, but I was confused because all other applications had
no problems).
This is really strange: For kernels 2.0.x the Xauthority mechanism works,
but it doesnt for 2.1.y. Can you see a reason?

I have another, completely unrelated, question (although it may not be
a good idea that I don't send a separate mail to the list). AFAIK, fdos
is included with dosemu, isn't it (so this is not Linux distribution
dependent question).

1) When I get the welcome message from autoexec.bat, it has about 20 or 30
chars of garbage at the end. I can repeat it by calling autoexec.bat,
although echo "..." doesnt show this problem.
2) I use the "normal" config.sys (device=c:\emufs.sys / and
device=c:\ems.sys). But d:\ doesnt show the Linux root, instead there
is random garbage or (sometimes) nothing besides the headline and a
   "File not found" message.

Are this known fdos or dosemu bugs? Is there a way to solve them?

Thank you in advance for answers, and thank you for the fine work
on dosemu (there are sooo many enhancements since I first used it
 as version 0.63.z).

  Greetings,

  Ulf
