Hello,

One quick question about dosemu compilation. Does dosemu need
glibc2 to work? The reason I ask is that I have 2 computers with the
infomagic 2.0.34 Slackware version of Linux which I upgraded up to
the 2.1.131 kernel. I've tried to compile various versions of dosemu
past the .66 version and I cannot get past the ./default-configure
in either machine.

Yes, yes I rtfm'd till blue and I did do a dump of the ./default-configure
file and did a dump of the config log. I noticed in ./default-configure
it couldn't find mkdev.h or glibc. When I tried to compile I again was
notified a few headers were missing and the system didn't know what -fno-gcse
was. (Please note I did a manual edit of the default-configure file so it
would use default-configure and not default-configure.dev)

I tried a manual upgrade using glibc-2.0.6.tar.gz and the associated
three other files and the building and compiling went O.K. but I somehow
screwed up on the manual links that were to be made after it was finished
with the build. Cripes, maybe I better go back to trying to get Redhat to
work as I heard the latest version has glibc2. The only thing I had against
Redhat is at the end of the installation process, it seemed to insist that
I install LILO. I've never been able to get LILO to work unless Linux was
the only thing installed in the machine. I've happily used loadlin to get
to Linux. If anyone knows how to bypass this on the installation so I can
I can use loadlin, like to give it another shot.

I was condemned to using Winblows for Internet connections for awhile but
now I found a local ISP, theramp.net, that is Linux friendly. The PPP setup
was pretty easy using ppp-2.3.5 so at least I can get alot of the Linux
files under Linux and not have to worry about the long file names.

Oh, BTW I am not a gamer. I'm trying to get dosemu to work so I can use
a straight-forward dos terminal program that is geared to using the
QWK format for downloading mail. There is no Linux equivalent to this
program. Next step is to get WINE to work to use another proprietary
Winblows program to access patient records at the hospital I work at.
I am suspicious that it needs glibc2 also. Thanks for taking the
time to read this.

                                Best regards,
                                Kurt Savegnago
