I know this sounds a little asinine, but I highly recommend the book, "DOS for Dummies."  I still have a copy and refer to it occasionally.  I see it often on the clearance shelves at Barnes & Noble and Books-A-Million;  I'll bet you can get a copy anywhere.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think it was the "DOS for Dummies" book that started the ".. for Dummies" series, so it must be good, right?
