My turn to add 2 cents to the topic (or off topic?) - I have always
interpreted hack to mean a quick and dirty way to fix a problem... kind of
working around the problem or masking it rather than actually going the
whole hog and coding a 'neat' or 'proper' solution... I guess crafty and
clever may apply to a 'hack' too - but I've also seen a few clueless or
dumb hacks in my time! :)
