Well, I went back to take a look at the Wine winsock output again, and
discovered that the 0xffffffff I've been seeing was a combination of chance
and poor coding on my part: memory was being scribbled on upon return from
getsockname(), so Descent thought 0xffffffff was the /local/ network. Patch
rescinded... :/ :)

Though while I'm here, can anyone explain to me what the following lines
(179-184) in drivers/net/ethertap.c mean? I've been trying to write an IPX
bridge using the netlink/ethertap code, but it seems to dislike IPX 802.3
frames... according to net/802/p8023.c, no header is needed
(proto->header_length = 0), but the ethertap code has a problem with this.
Nevertheless, if I comment these lines out, the packets are sent with no sign
of trouble. Can anyone explain to me the reason for this code?
