Ring buffer in 3c59x

Hello,

Can anyone explain me how the ring buffer works on a 3c900 card?
Can I stop/pause the transmittion of a packet after it has been 
moved over to the ring buffer, or is it the adapter which has the
complete control?
What is the advantage of using the ring buffer?
