smbclient (Version 2.0.3)

Why if I want to use smbclient I have to specify \\\\host\\\service.
If I try \\host\service I get the following error:
\hostservice: Not enough '\' characters in service
 ^^^^^^^^^^^
It does not even put "\" between host and service.

The strange thing is \\\\host\\\service works.
