Hey,
How are these machines connected? via 10BaseT directly, via a hub/switch,
or 10Base2 (coax)? If you're connecting 10BaseT directly you'll need to
either make or buy a cross-over cable. Basically it's a regular cable
with the Tx and Rx reversed on one end.
Also you should delete that gateway from your eth0 config because
it is invalid as far as your network config currently is setup.
Hope this helps. Another thing to try is to disable PnP in the BIOS of
your Linux machine.
