Since it's an external adapter you certainly don't need any special isd=
n
stuff in the kernel, it shold be used just like any other modem.

This means you didn't actually get to talk to the ISPs equipment at all=
 -
your problem is that you don't have a working ISDN connection. The usua=
l
reason for this problem is mixup of ISDN parameters (X.75 / V.120 / Syn=
c
PPP). In europe the settings used most often on the ISP side would be S=
ync
PPP (requires async2sync ppp setting at your end) and X.75.

It would be helpful to know what equipment is used on the ISP side - Ci=
sco
5200/5300 for example will only support sync ppp.

You can also try manually dialing into your isp (using minicom) and see=
ing
what you get - a PPP frame should look like a bunch of garbage starting=

with ~, see sample:
~=FF}#=C0!}!}!} }8}!}$}%=DC}"}&} } } } }%}&}5}9@?}'}"}(}"3}+~~=FF}

if all is set up ok, you should be getting these when manually dialing =
into
your isp.
