It is organized in a vastly different manner. Most of the networking
configuration files are in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts. The ifcfg-ethx
files are used for configuring ethernet cards.

We have just completed technology validation demo for an "active virtual
firewall" that utilizes a new technique, software genetics, to secure
remotes and hosts. Technical details are available from
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>. The approach is virtually impervious to a text
hack and should be investigated by anyone serious about securing VPN to
Internet portals, or any private network. This is new technology--no

I'm runnig RedHat4 .2 on a i386 mashine as DNS and mail server ;)
Recently changed the network card to an ISA card which I can't manage to

identify.

On the card stays: 906-E16 REV 2.0

It has a chip: DP83906VLJ

Could anybody give me some sollution which module and HOW should I load
to get it work.
All the other network configurations are unchanged since they worked
with the old card.

Thanks

P.S. irq=10 io=0x320 is set by the jumpers
Tried the modules: 8390.o and ne.o but they doesn't seem to work.

Has anyone tried the Linux Edge Router ( http://edge.fireplug.net/ ) ?
It sounds like a custom version of the Linux Router Project to firewall
a small network from the the internet accessed by DHCP cable or ADSL. It
looks simple to use and it does exactly what I want.
My questions to any users of the above are:
1) Is it simple to use?
2)Is a 486/25 Linux edge Router computer with 12 megs of ram adequate to
firewall one pentium Windows computer with a 4 Mbps down / 640kbps up
ADSL connection?
3) Will it hurt my 30ms Quake 2 ping times :-)?
Thanks in advance for any info.

PS: I tried to subscribe to the Fireplug mailing lists but it didn't
seem to work. Off to try again.

Subject: Netgear RT328 Config? No Support from Bay Networks!
Date: Tue, 29 Dec 1998 07:16:25 GMT

We would like to use the RT328 as an ISDN ppp server (and client). The
documentation only talks about how to setup the device as a client. Has
anyone out there set one of these up as a server? The setup screens talk the
Netgear language and not anything that make sense as compared to other
routers (i.e. Cisco). You would think they would describe what things like
"My WAN Address" mean for a server configuration. Just by luck I can get the
2 RT328s talking using NAT on the client side, but thats it. A plea for help
to Bay Networks resulted in the reply, "We don't offer technical support for
this setup" even though they show a nice picture (but just a picture) of it
on page 7-1 in the reference guide!!!

Too bad, nice device, crappy support, unless we get some answers, they'll
lose a nice chunk of business...

Hey Bay Networks, some better documentation would be nice (with a good example
or two).

If anyone has any info on doing this please let me know.

OK. First of all, you have got masquerading working, so that part is
right.

Whats happening is you are not getting a (valid?) IP from your DHCP
server.
HAve you allowed DHCP to pass through the firewall?

When you Set up masquerading you usually use ipfwadm to
1. Deny all packets
2. Masquerade for packets coming from your internal machines.

In your case, when you set up DHCP, you would have had to add in a
couple of ipfwadm statements, to allow the DHCP services to receive/send
their designated packets off the network. I can't tell you those
commands off the top my head - maybe someone else can.

Or maybe you can do some homework :)

Hello,

I cannot get my Linksys ISA 10mb lan card to be recognized by the
RedHat5.1 installation program. I am trying to install it in a 100mHz
Compaq and it is telling me that it "cannot find the device anywhere on
the system". I have tried several different IRQ and I/O settings but
have not had success. The card is recognized and works OK under Windows
98. It is an older machine with an ISA/PCI bridge in it. It supposedly
will accept both ISA and PCI cards.

Any suggestions?

The problem is from NT 4.0 SP3 (or greater) to a machine supporting SAMBA?

If I remember right NT 4.0 SP 3 added password scrambling as a default for network
communication to non-MS clients (another backward step by MS). The registry hack
had something to do with adding a registry value "EnablePlainTextPassword" in the
System hive.

\system\currentcontrolset\services\rdr\parameters

Create DWORD Value EnablePlainTextPassword = 1

I did a quick search and found a page discussing some of these issues for another
product.

Hope this helps.
