Never mind. I incorrectly assumed that fetchmail would work with just
command line options and no .fetchmailrc file. Works great now that the
correct files exist.

You've answered your own question. ;) Disable PnP, set it for your
free com port, (ala, COM2, IRQ3?) and then fire up RH and setup the
modem for that port via RH's X configuration program. Also remember
to setup the port speed to 115200, and then fire up minicom, set it
up to use COM2 (or whatever) and set the baud rate to 115200, exit
minicom, restart minicom and then type the following command:
ATS0-0S2=255S11=55X4&C1&D2&W <- you should get a OK response from
the modem. Then just use a init string of ATZ for minicom and
your dialup to the internet. Good luck, and happy new year!

I have two pc's One is linux and the other is Windows 98. I would like to
use the Windows pc as the proxy server. Both pc are connected with ethernet
cards. I want the linux pc to connect to the internet through the windows
pc (the proxy server). I have tried several software programs. They work for
about a minute than the linux crashes. Has anyone have any success with a
program?

I had my network up. could ping all computers, etc. I shut down to
change monitors. When I started back up, I had no network. I can't
ping the other machines and when I use 'smbclient -L 90.0.0.1' I get
an error message of 'error connecting to 90.0.0.0:139 (no route to
host)'
Does anyone know what happened?

Here the modem response OK is found. This is 19 seconds later. The
response should have arrived in less than a second. The only way
this can happen is that the IRQ configured in Linux for the modem
device node ( /dev/ttySx for some integer x <=4 ) is not the IRQ that
the modem actually uses.
This is the thing that needs immediate correction. Find out what IRQ
the modem actually uses, then use setserial in /etc/rc.d/rc.serial -
or your equivalent configuration file - to set the IRQ correctly for
Linux. This may be all that is needed, you very likely are just taking
too long to be get authenticated because the IRQ is wrong.

Subject: PPP using CHAP
Date: Sat, 02 Jan 1999 03:48:25 GMT
RH5.0 Network Configurator is not helping me make a PPP connection to
my ISP. The modem dials and connects but then disconnects with a "No
Carrier" message in /var/log/messages. I presume that the logon
procedure fails.
I have tried logging on manually using Seyon and I find myself unable
to do so. I can type in my username but I am unable to type in my
password.
My ISP informs me that they are using CHAP. How do I set up such a
connection? The HOWTO is rather long and confusing.
TIA

Hi,
I have a small expiremental LAN setup in my basement with the
cable modem as the connection to the Internet
(see attached diagram)
My problem is that my Linux Box (RedHat 5.0) can't see the internet.
Both computers can ping each other just fine.
Initially neither machine could see each other but
I added the default gateway using the route command then
they were able to see each other. (the ip I used for the gateway was
the address of the gateway of my service provider - is that right?)
However, anything outside my two machines are invisible to my
Linux box. My windows machine works fine but it is using DHCP
and I am unsure if I can get Linux to do that (I'm a recent Windows
convert *grin*)
I have a sneaking suspicion that it has something to do with the
subnet mask but I can't figure it out.
Anybody have any suggestions? (I'm with Shaw if that helps)
Thanks alot

Subject: Bridging with RH5.2 and HP100VG
Date: Sat, 02 Jan 1999 05:10:39 +0100
Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Greetings!
I'm trying to set up bridging on our local network, using a Linux box
with 3 NICs. The idea is to use my
HP 100 VG AnyLan cards for a few of my machines, while being connected
to the rest of the network (which runs
10/100baseT).
My configuration is as follows:
eth0 : 3com 100mbit (3C905-TX, driver:3c59x) -> connected to hardware
switch/rest of network.
eth1 : 3com 10mbit (3C900-COMBO, driver:3c59x) -> connected to 10mbit
HUB.
eth2 : HP100VG (J2585A, driver:hp100) -> connected to 100VG HUB -> my
machine.
currently I'm running RH5.2 kernel 2.0.35.
If I connect my NT box to the 10Mbit HUB on eth1, bridging works fine,
which makes me bellieve the problem
is with the 100VG driver.
When trying to bridge between eth0 and eth2, it seems that larger
packets from my machine to the rest of the network somehow get lost.
Checking mail, web browsing etc. works fine, but when trying to ftp, I
can download files OK, but uploading cancels (my ftp-client says it
transmits only 8K, then stops). Uploading small files (~2kb) works fine.
I had a conversation with Jaroslav Kysela, who wrote the original
driver, but he couldn't help me, so he
adviced me to contact Siegfried "Frieder" Loeffler, who wrote the
updated driver (supporting Bus Mastering
for rev. B cards), but I didn't get any respons to my request.
