It likely means that the pppd asyncmap option is being given an invalid
value. In particular <asyncmap 0x0> is not valid but <asyncmap 0> is
valid. Just a guess, I seem to remember trying 0x0 once and it didn't
work but I don't remember the error message.

I don't know if this will help you or not. I have a IP masq box that
sits on a DSL line and gets its address with DHCP. The IP address is
then registered with www.tzo.com to allow them to point the
durendal.tzo.com name to me. The box uses ipportfw to point all port
80 requests inside to my web server box. The web server box sits on
192.168.1.x (I don't remember the last byte without looking it up) and
all of the machines inside think they are in the durendal.tzo.com
domain and the web server is tanith.durendal.tzo.com. The hosts files
have all 7 or 8 machines in them. This lets outside connections hit
the web server with XXXXX.durendal.tzo.com (XXXX is whatever) and all
internal machines can get to it with tanith.durendal.tzo.com. Does
this help any?

I visited the site and got to thinking that what I want is IP masq,
it's
routing. I want to connect a 10baseT network and a 10base2
network and support dialin connections. What would be more
suitable, IP masq or routing?
When I set up the box I did 116mb on HDA for / and 8mb on HDB
for swap space. The other 108mb on HDB was left for dos. I then
decided to junk dos and fdisked hdb2 to linux native. That space is
not mounted. If I wanted to add the compiler what should I do with
the free space?
Hope this is all coherant(sp?)

My feeling is that when a question is asked in a news group, it should
be answered in a news qroup. With DejaNews being available, it should
not be an excuse, "I don't get to read this group often." Or
whatever. Those people who do bother to follow the groups for
answeres, or use DejaNews can then possible benifit from the answere
without having to post the same or similar question again.
So, what is the spam situation now? I have been fairly active in
several news groups, and my trashcan is not receiving much spam. I
don't think I've seen any for a few weeks. Could the ISPs be finaly

This probably isn't true for all politicians.
The Internet is most threatend by commercial interests rather than
governments. Look at all the web sites that have content that is not
viewable on non Windows platforms, for example. Know the real enemy.

I had this all working once before with 3.2 but a bad storm damaged the

Dear Sir:
I regret to inform you that my 3 year old has better behaviour and manners than
you do.
When I first started experimenting with UNIX, the typical response to an insolent,
loud-mouthed individual such as yourself would have been RTFM. Or, in other words
(since you
probably don't understand the acronym) Read The F****** Manual.
The alternative is to ask @home network for assistance. Or, follow the advice given by
sane
individuals in this newsgroup. such as purchasing Red Hat from such places as

Well, you'll have to do one of two things; either install your
own DNS and follow their instructions on setting up domains, or put
the proper entries in the /etc/hosts of every machine attempting to
resolve the webserver's address.
I'd recommend the latter approach for a small network, and the
former for a very large one (as it's easy to update the records for
the whole network that way) or one with machines using Lose95 (as I
don't believe there's a way to map addresses using those, but I could
be wrong). Also, having your own DNS reduces load on your line to the
internet, and will make looking up the same address over and over a
bit faster -- for example, when your browser looks a site up to get a
webpage, then to get an image, then to get another image, etc. Good
luck!

Can you mount the shares with "net use" -command from command prompt? If
so (and which I strongly believe is the case) the problem you are having
is only the browsing. That's really not that bad since you *can* use the
shares quite well from the command line, that's just not us easy as
clicking those fance icons..
Things to try out.. Try using the following settings:
os level = 33
preferred master = yes
I myself used to have samba(linux), warp 4 and wfwg in the same lan and
they all saw each other just fine using those settings.

It should be. After all, if 3c509x is supported, I do not see why 3c508
wouldn't. The driver to use is 3c508 when compiling your kernel. Which version
of Linux are you using by the way? I'm using RH 5.2.
