Howdy MarkCheck out the HowTo for NFS. you will need to edit the hosts,
/etc/hosts.allow, and /etc/hosts.deny files. You will need a log in account
on the other box. Make your own exportfs script to kill and restart the
daemons and put it in your scripts directory.

#!/bin/sh
killall -HUP /usr/sbin/rpc.mountd
killall -HUP /usr/sbin/rpc.nfsd
echo re-exported file systems

The other box will need to have it's hosts files properly setup also.

Why not it works for other win95 machines on my network. I am running
aGate on the win98 box you see.
So lets try again.
I have told the linux box (Now known as jilldando) that it's default
gateway is 10.0.1.250 (win98)
win98 is running aGate (Which can allow ftp, http smtp ntp nntp etc)

Assuming your kernel has support for smbfs, use smbmount to mount the NT
share:
smbmount //NT-servername/share-name /mount point -U NT-user-name
You must have an account on the domain and will be prompted for a
password. You will have the same privileges as if you had mapped it from
an NT station. Do a man smbmount for more information
I have no idea how to use MS Proxy.

Try and get rid of that last 'CONNECT' in your chat or ppp connection
script. (You have two "CONNECT" statements, I'm thinkin'). Your
connection is timing out waiting for that last 'CONNECT' to come thru.
Hope this helps.

You can build an IP-IP tunnel (see the NET-3 HOWTO, easier but not

encrypted).
In both cases, when A comes online, you must build a tunnel (IPIP
or VPN). Make A's router it connect to B's router, and set up B's
side of the tunnel. Also make sure that, when the connection drops,
B's router removes its end of the tunnel.
I don't think you want to make B's router the default gateway for the
A network. A already has an internet connection, why route through B?
Only A and B internal addresses should be routed through the tunnel.
Good luck. Vincent.

You have the cable modem plugged into the hub, keep in mind, the cable modem
is really nothing more than a bridge, it isn't technically a network device.
It doesn't even classify as a gateway, not in the sense TCP/IP classifies a
gateway.
My Linux box has two NIC cards. One has the IP address bound that @home gave
me, the other binds a 192.168.2.x number that I use. I plug the cable modem
into the first and the hub into the second. Any other machine will have the
same class C address (in the range) of the 192.168.2.x "network".
All my Win95 machines are on the same 192.168.2.x IP address range and are
hubbed together. The NIC card in the linux box is 192.168.2.1 to serve as
the true gateway for the network.
Beyond that, I use the following ipfwadm command to masquerade the
192.168.2.x network traffic:
ipfwadm -F -a accept -m -S 192.168.2.0/24 -W eth0
The -W switch indicates the NIC device to masquerade from.. this will be the
NIC card IP address connected to the cable modem. It works very well.
There is a great deal more you'll need to do with ipfwadm in order to
protect your server from self styled bad-boys on the 'net, but it isn't
difficult to grasp.

Unless you have a winmodem, I would highly suggest that you move the modem to
the linux box and use it to do the masq / proxy work. I tested Wingate, for
comparison reasons, and the features and performance lagged compared to linux.
No hard numbers, just noticed that the performance lagged a bit. My
non-technical girlfriend noticed it, too.
Yeah, it was slightly easier to set up, but the loss in performance ain't
worth it. I'm running a 56K on a 486 with Slackware 2.0.36, and it rocks.
Need some hints? Some of the best information for masq / ppp / diald is at

Redhat 5.2 supports FAT32. AFAIK, all linux kernels do it the same way --

I'm trying to get ppp working for two different connections. I
got it to go for one but not the other. I can get to both from
win98, however. Here's what's happening:
connection1:
works ok since as expected I get the (ogin:) and (assword:) prompts.
Everything from then on is fine.
connection2:
I don't get the (ogin:) and (assword:) prompts, instead I get
the following three lines:
AT&FX4&C1&D3M0$SB115200S7=60S0=1&W
AT&FX4&C1&D3M0$SB115200S7=60S0=1&W
AT&FX4&C1&D3M0$SB115200S7=60S0=1&W
Any idea what this is? Modem commands? Does the server want me to
set my modem up in the middle of a the negotiation? What gives?
Also, I can't seem to be able to send anything appropriate to get the
server to come back with the (ogin:) and (assword:) prompts (I "manually"
dial up with kermit, get the same lines but can't seem to type anything
appropriate, ^M doesn't do anything).
If you have any ideas, please let me know (CC: [EMAIL PROTECTED] if you
don't mind). Thanks!

Most major paging services allow for paging by email. If yours does, then
create a mail alias like page_username with the correct address format for
your provider and hand the message off via your mail server.

The usual reason is that Stuffit on the Mac converts line-endings and MI/X
crashes on Mac line-endings. Just take the original archive and decompress
it without line-ending conversion. Look in the FAQ to MI/X.

Good idea. But I did a bit-for-bit comparison between the headers

stood out. I'll dig up the traces and post them. It was really
mysterious.
