This is what i get if type "ifconfig eth0":
eth0 Link encpa:Ethernet HWaddr 00:08:C7:8C:AD:06
inet addr: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx Bcast: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx Mask:

             TX packets: 1603 errors: 0 dropped:0 overruns:0
             Interrupt:10 Base address:0xff80
NOTE: I replaced the actual IP address with xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

in my /etc/resolv.conf, i have the following entries
search DOMAIN.NAME
nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

i can ping myself without a problem however, i cannot ping any other
machines whether it's in the same ethernet segment or not.

i already spent a lot of time reading ethernet-howto and net3-howto but,
i couldn't find anything.

the nic is intel etherexpress with the chip# SB82558B.

i would appreciate if someone can help.

thanks!

I have set up my server to dial my ISP and log me into the internet,,,
This is working..... My Lan consists of a 486 server runing ver 5.2 and
2 Pent systems with 95... 10megabit either.... the server can talk to
either machine and the machines can talk to the server... I just can't
do anything on the internet with either of the 95 machines....

The proxy dialer is working well... all the machines can talk to each
other and the server can talk to the internet,, what have i forgot???

You need to install one of the FTP server packages. I prefer ProFTPd.

> Can anyone give an example of what to put in what files,

That will depend on which package you install. The ProFTPd configuration
files (as installed) allow a basic anonymous-FTP download connection.

To access your machine *from* your machine, you can try "ftp 127.0.0.1" to
force a connection via the localhost interface.

I recently installed Red Hat Linux 5.2 on my computer and it was working
fine (Telnet, FTP and HTTP) until the networking suddenly stopped
working ; I can't even Ping other computers on my network nor can they
Ping mine.

The error message that keeps appearing over and over again during bootup
and anytime I'm using the console, is :

eth0: trigger_send() called with the transmitter busy

While Pinging, the errormsg appears every time a ping packet is sent.

As a newbie to Linux, I was feeling pretty positive after I had
successfully set up my system with Win98/Linux dual boot, but now I just
don't know what to do. I've searched through various FAQ's and HOW-TO's
with no success.

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!

Try http://www.cybername.net , I think they provide the subdomain name
redirect service. :)))

Subject: Advanced routing question.
Date: Mon, 11 Jan 1999 17:10:37 -0700

Is there a way to force linux (and other routers?) to route based
solely on the destination, and without regard to the physical
interface that it came in on?

For example, I want a router that can send a packet back out
the same ethernet link that it came in on, if that is what
other-wise normal routing rules would dictate.

Nevermind why, just assume I really do want to do this :)

Any idea where I might find more information?

Thanks,
Ben

The documentation is bogus. The getversign and getca scripts are part of
Stronghold and not SSLeay. And they are trivial scripts. Just copy the server
certificate to the file referenced by SSLCertificateFile and the server
private key to the file referenced by SSLCertificateKeyFile.

Hello,

I have a RedHat 5.2 box sitting behind a company firewall. We
normally use a proxy sitting at port 8080 on a machine named "proxy" for
all outgoing requests, like http, ftp, etc. Is there a way to specify
this proxy port number to the rpm command, so that I can use its FTP
option to install packages? I found a --ftpport option, but I believe
this is the port number for the real ftp server, not for the firewall
proxy, correct?

  Thanks.

Hi folks,

I have recently purchased the above ISDN card. I am running RedHat 5.2 with
kernel 2.0.36. I have downloaded and installed the isdn4k-utils-9803020842-1
rpm.

According to the documentation, the card only works if the driver is
installed as a module, but 'make *config' doesn't allow the option of
loading 'hisax support for Asuscom' as a module.

Can anyone here offer advice on how to get this card working? I am now
compiling the whole ISDN subsystem as a module to see what happens.

Cheers,
Tom

Great! I seem to have the two talking via a parallel cable, but the
RedHat installation stops cold on the last step (name your server and
your directory). I have put the appropriate IP address in the
/etc/exports file...

/mnt/cdrom 192.168.1.2

...but it says "can't mount from this server" or something like that.
I'm a bit stuck now!

Cheers :)
