I had the same problem with my 3com Impact IQ. I would connect to the ISP, but no
second channel
in Linux. However, I would get both in Windows. The problem was in the AT commands.
Windows
apparently gives the command for Multilink PPP in the background. I solved the
problem by going
into minicom and giving the commands:
ATS71=1  ---    Async-Sync PPP conversion
ATS80=1  ---    Multilink PPP
AT&W --- Writes settings to NVRAM

Now this was for a external 3com. If you have a different modem, the commands will
prob be
different. If you have this modem, the AT commands page is here:

http://infodeli.3com.com/infodeli/tools/isdn/impact/ext/at-cmds/at-cmds.htm

After issuing those commands, the modem dials up and connects on both channels like a
champ
(without the need for two phone numbers).

I had the same problem booting my system from the floppy
drive. It seemed to work fine at first. I made several
attempts to format my hard drive & load the software--which
I had to abandon because of hardware incompatability
issues--but after a while when I re-started from scratch
I would get the nothing but the noxious "BOOT FAILED" message.
I finally made it work by changing my system BIOS & SCSI controller
BIOS to force my system to boot from the SCSI CD drive.

Malay> server error: could not open default font 'fixed'

Obviously, you have not installed the font files for X11R6. The font
named "fixed" is REQUIRED by all X-servers, including the Xvnc server.
Your Xvnc server failed to start because it cannot access the font
"fixed".u

Another possible cause is that your "fontpath" contains invalid
entries. In this case, edit the 'vncserver' file, delete the offending
entries, and then try starting the VNC server again. You can hunt the
offending fontpath entries by stripping them off from the 'vncserver'
file one by one.

Malay> How would I go about getting past this error?

Install X11 fonts. You may have installed your system without support
for X11 (esp. Server side). So, install X11 packages onto your system
and try again. If you think you can handle more advanced stuffs, you
don't have to install all those X11 things. Just install the font
files (the 'misc' fonts are essential, since the font named "fixed" is
there).

Not necessarily. I use procmail to return an "undeliverable" code, which
bounces spam back to the sender just like a munged email address. That
way it's the spammer's mailbox that fills up, not mine. By running egrep
on the header, you can filter on anything in the header, so you don't
have to ding whole sites.

I will admit, however, that I refuse delivery of all email from
hotmail.com. I've never gotten a valid email from that site, so screw
'em.

I have a small lan with IP MASQ and a cacheing nameserver on the
internet connected server machine. It all works pretty well. I can
connect over the net from other machines on the lan without a problem.
However, nslookup fails on those machines, but not on the connected
server machine:

$nslookup
*** Can't find server name for address 192.168.1.3: Non-existent host/domain
*** Default servers are not available

But, as I said, names resolve fine when using the web or any other
client software. /etc/resolv.conf on client machine:
nameserver 192.168.1.3 # ether IP address of connected server machine

Just wondering what I'm missing. Here's resolv.conf on the server
machine:
nameserver 127.0.0.1

Let me know what other info/files are needed.

So Far, here, as with so many other posts on relative M$ Vs. Linux,
I've seen all sorts of bitching, moaning, and crying
(as well as the well thought out defense of...)
about "idiot friendly"

I MUST BE THAT IDIOT

Since the demise of commercially available Dos - based software,
I have been stuck with adjusting to Windoze.

I don`t have a really snazzy job, I work in a warehouse.
I however am a consumer. I buy things I can use.

Having just bought RedHat 5.2, I thought I was going to shit a horse!

This stuff is user tolerant. That's it.
(unless of course you're one of the tech-elite...cos this discussion keeps
degrading into elitist convo.)

aIts a pain in the backside to mount then unmount a CDROM.
even though it looks like :
        mount dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom/blahblahblah

Most users probably agree that that's a whole bunch of extra effort.
If Linux is so great as described, why's it so painful for the john doe to use?

Windoze is a necessary evil - access for the uninformed, or unwilling

Masochists (like myself) grab Linux out of a box, and find there's a whole
boatload of tweaking we need to do to use it. john doe won't.

The real evil of M$ is their monopolistic practices.
The real good of linux is that its like philosophy - free to all for their use.

Then again, someone out there is gonna flame the hell outta this,
and Gates' lawyers probably want me dead now too! =)

I have a RH 5.1 Linux box which acts as DNS and
does IP Farwarding between a private network say 192.168.2.xxx
and a Class C internet pool of address.

What I did is

ipfwadm -F -a m -S 192.168.2.0/24 -D 0.0.0.0/0

It works fine for everything except when I try to send mail messages
with
attachments.

I can send normal mail messages without attachments, but when I try to
attach anything to the mail message it cannot be delivered.

Is there anyone who can help me ?

P.S.
The same happens from the Linux box at the same time as from
other W95/WNT boxes in the private Network area.

You are so right with forwarding and masquerading it doesn't work, because
the forward towards the inet and not from the inet.
You should download rinetd this will enable you to redirect calls by prot
number.
Forinstance when you tell it in the /etcxxx (dunno the name right now):
ispip port destinationip
10.1.1.1 80 192.168.1.2 then every call from 10.1.1.1 on port 80 will be
redirected to your 192.168.1.2 box.

This works great! except for FTP since FTP uses more than 1 socket per
session.
