I have setup a Linux Redhat 5.1 Pop3 email server

I have a user base of about 500

I keep getting complains that some of the users get late email deliveries ?

senario :

user A sends an email to user B and user C

user C receives the email but user B does not ?

user B will only get the email after a day or two ?

I am using Netscape Communicator 4.07

Any suggestions ?

I have checked the logs and I can see that user C and B have received the
email right on the second when it was sent

I think it could be Netscape Communicator 4.07 having problems trying to
read the email from the server ?

Any suggestions ?

I think that is where I eventually found it; by following the pointer
in one of the readme files to a web site which is now defunct, but still
pointed to a new website, which had the pointer to an ftp site which did
have Erics patches available. Frome the diald mailing list I get the
impression that Eric Schenk new has his time tied up with other things.

All in all it is far the easiest to just download the rpm from the redhat
site, and of you want the sources the source rpm including the required
patches should be available the same location.

Subject: DHCP Client @ Comcast@Home
Date: Sat, 23 Jan 1999 11:33:38 GMT

Hi all,

I am working on getting my Linux router/firewall working with my cable
modem. The internal part of the network seems fine... I can telnet,
ping, FTP, etc between the Linux box and my Windows machines.

I am trying to get the DHCP client to work on the external connection.
After some digging into the network-scripts I have determined that I am
indeed running dhcpcd (0.70) WITH the -h option. Unfortunately, I do
not seem to be connecting.

I have seen that in my normal set-up (Win 95 DHCP client to cable
modem), I see that I send a DHCP REQUEST (Type 3) message and I get back
a DHCP ACK (Type 5). All works fine.

With my Linux client, I send a DISCOVER (Type 1) message and get an
OFFER in reply. The reply message has an IP address (the one I normally
get), DNS server addresses and domain information in it. But, the Linux
box doesn't seem to use the information.

The ifdhcpc-done script doesn't seem to be running - the /etc/dhcpc
directory doesn't get created.

In the boot-up messages, I see the following when eth0 (Intel EtherPro
using eepro.o module) is being configured...

set Rx mode to 1 addresses
        "" ""
        "" ""
        promiscuous mode enabled

Any ideas what's going on here ?

Thanks,

Ken

P.S., Here's my route table, just in case that helps...

24.3.46.0 * eth0 (external network)
192.168.1.0 * eth1 (intrnal network)
127.0.0.0 * lo (loopback)
default 24.3.46.1 eth0

I've the same problem on a dual PII with SMP kernel support with the
nfs _module_. But when i compile nfs support into the kernel nfs works
(since a few hours, but no erros 'til now) perfect.

This is covered in the PPP-HOWTO. Details depend on what termial
emmulator you use.

I use kermit. I break back to the kermit prompt then hit ^Z and run pppd.

For further info see the HOWTO.

Vague half-remembered and out of context snippets of the log are not
much help. Show us the complete and actual PPP connection debug log.

Shot in the dark: You've set your Linux box as for a dynamic IP
account but your ISP does only static IP accounts and requires you to
configure your IP address into your client.

Anyone use the dynamic IP dns service from www.dynip.com with their linux

Hi!

My linux box crashes when I copy stuff from a nfs mounted disk. It only
happens when I use my sound blaster. And it doesn't happen when I use
FTP.
I run 2.2.0pre6-ac2 (it allready happed whith a 2.1.132, I didn't use
any dev kernels before) and it doesn't happen on my old 2.0.34 kernel.
I have a AWE32 on io=0x220 irq=5 dma=1 dma16=5 mpu_io-0x330
I have a AMD network card on io=0x300 irq=9 dma=7 and I use the lance
driver.
My dad's box doesn't crash and he uses the 2.2.0-pre5 kernel and he has
too a awe32 on the same settings but a ne2000 nic on 0x300 and irq=9

please help!

I have set up diald and dialmon, and both work perfectly, as does the
ipfwad-ing to my win95/NT machines. But I have a problem, whenever I
connect to the linux box by telnet from my Windows machines, diald
starts to dial up my ISP. How can I stop this, I have already altered
the filter file for diald, but that then stopped the telnet session
from opening.

My ipfawd setup is:

ipfwadm -F -p deny
ipfwadm -F -a masquerade -W ppp0 -S 192.168.0.0/16 -D 0.0.0.0/0

the ip addresses are:
192.168.0.1 Win95
192.168.0.2 WinNT
192.168.0.3 Linux RedHat

There are three logs in my /var/log directoryr: syslog, messages and debug.
The debug file has the ppp negotiation messages, but they may be elsewhere
for your system since /etc/syslog.conf defines where they go. Look around
in /var/log and if you still can't find them, then add

*.=debug /usr/adm/debug

to /etc/syslog.conf to get the debug messages send to /var/log/debug.

Hi,

as far as I know, Win98 uses encrypted passwords over the TCP/IP connection,
where Win95 does not. Try "encrypt passwords = yes" in the global area of
your smb.conf. But this means that you can not use both in parallel. NT
behaves like Win98.

Date: Sat, 23 Jan 1999 14:54:18 GMT

Hi everyone,
I am an absolute newbie on Linux (so I write this under Win) and a
have a problem to which I cannot find an answer. I borrowed a Redhat
4.2 cd and managed to install Redhat 4.2 and LILO. The problem is
that I need an updated kernel (redhat4.2 comes with 2.0.30) to get my
NIC working. The problem is that I download (under Win) an updated
kernel but it is over 2 MB, kernel-2_0_36-3_i386.rpm. I have not a
clue how to get this file on my linux partitions. (Where should I put
it anyway?)
How to solve the problem above?
Kind regards,
Maarten Sanders.
P.S. If possible I would like to receive a copy any answer also by

Setting GATEWAY to your default Gateway and GATWAYDEV to eth0 should be
ok. While setting up any other then the eth0-interface the the condition
of the second if-statement would be false and due the "route add" would
not be performed.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha...

Good luck.

There are Unix sys admins with a dozen years experience who
can handle everything under the sun except Sendmail.
The O'Reilly book is a minimal requirement.

Run qmail, or the latest IBM sendmail drop-in replacement.
Sendmail configuration is tough enough an entire company
formed to handle it. I know qmail has a MUCH MUCH easier
setup to configure, and is smaller, and faster. The IBM
mailer by Wietse Venema should be much better than sendmail
also, especially from an administrator point of view, but
I have no first hand experience with it.

That commonly occurs when CCP is in use and there are bugs in the CCP
algorithm implementation.

Since you're using 2.3.5, try turning on "noccp" and see if that
doesn't fix the problem.
