Hi Jeff,

You might find that Equalizer (http://www.coyotepoint.com) is just what
you're looking for. Mgmt is thinking about a Linux port, but it may be a
while...

only the superuser can install rpm's so make sure that's how you're
doing it.

If this is a Windows 95 system you'll want to obtain an updated redirector
(vrdrupd.exe) from Microsoft Support. You are correct in the fact that the
Network Redirector for Microsoft Networking does perform file caching.
Normally, if a files date/time-stamp does not change then Explorer (really
the redirector) attempts to reference the file from within the cache. For
more information on this refer to knowledge base article: Q148367

Did you ping IP addresses or hostnames??? If you did the latter, it might be
possible that you have no dns entries in yout /etc/resolv.conf.
Otherwise, you might have a problem with your default gateway.
try running sometinh like:
route add default dev ppp0
this wil add a default gateway ebtry in your routing list to the IP address
asigned to your ppp0 device.

See if Linux has a "version=2" option for the NFS mount. That
version of IRIX is ancient. Your best bet would be to upgrade to
IRIX 6.5 especially since it is the first version certified as Y2K
compliant.

                        Hope this helps,

You should also let your provider setup a MX record to that mailserver.

f.i.

foo2.com. IN MX 5 www.foo1.com

What perhaps might be a good idea, is to build a seperat sendmail.cf for that
second domain, (don't forget to also give different mailque directory and run 2
instances for your sendmail. This is not necesarry, but it could make
maintaneance easier. But redirecting mail form [EMAIL PROTECTED] to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
with the sendmail.cw file is more graceious.

First of all, this is international, so you should write in englisch.

Secondly what do you use in Outlook Express? IMAP4 or POP3.
With IMAP4, you can only remove messgaes by deleting them, and later deleteing
them from the trash bin. There are no problems with either IMAP4 or POP3 in
Linux.

From: Donald Ellis <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Subject: Help with xferlog and messages log files
Date: Tue, 02 Feb 1999 16:10:08 -0500

I am having a problem with ftp'ing into a Linux server (RedHat 5.1)
from some DOS computers using FTP software's PCTCP for DOS.

For most of the day many ftp transfers happen with out any problems.
These are recorded correctly in /var/log/messages, /var/log/xferlog,
and a log file from a proprietary daemon. The proprietary daemon has
worked correctly under SCO unix and HP-UX for many years.

In the evening, 7 to 10 PM (of course, when I am not around), the Linux
server stops allowing ftp transfers.

Last night I started a program on a DOS computer that continuously
requested files to be down loaded from the server. This allows me to
know exactly when the problem occurred.

The last successful transfer was at 20:08.

/var/log/messages reports an unknown user timed out at 20:26. The
time-out is 900 seconds, which is 15 minutes. Then it reports two FTP
sessions closed that have no report of being opened. These happen at
20:50 and 20:55.

/var/log/xferlog reports unto the time the system stops responding to
ftp request from the DOS computers (20:08). It shows that next down load
allowed was at 7:25 the next morning. I had not done anything yet, so it
restarted on its own.

The proprietary log reports ftp transfers were attempted, but none were
successful after ftp stopped working. These attempts were at 20:46,
20:52, and 20:54.

There were no attempts between 20:54 and 7:25.

Are there any other logs I can look at, that might give me a clue ?

Is there somewhere that sets a maximum of ftpd daemons running at one
time ?

Any suggestions at all ?

Help PLEASE !!!

Mmm... I hope that Quake doen't use several sockets for one user. If not
you can use rinetd, to forward calls on the quake port the the Q.server.
Otherwis you should start messing around with kernel 2.2.1 and iP
portforwarding. (I still haven't got the 2.2.1 kernel running so to my
opnion it isn't 100% stable yet).

Phil - thanks for the response.

First, let me say in answer to a couple other responses that this is not a
DNS problem. I am telneting with the IP addresses (not Domain Names)
anyway.

Yes, I can ping from one machine to the other in both directions...

Also, I believe that the Win98 Terminal is set to VT100. (I can telnet to
other linux machines with no problem when dialed up to my ISP)

It seems like there might be some sort of Linux security issue I'm not aware
of that is not letting ftp clients connect and is making telnet clients wait
a long time. (Linux's httpd accepts connections fine).

When telneting from the Win98 to the Linux box, it takes a while... but,
sometimes it does not timeout before connecting. Then, while connected, it
is a fast connection.

I can telnet from the Linux box to itself without a problem.

Are there certain config files I should look at that will allow access?

Again, any help is much appreciated.

When you don't share any printers you can remove the printers folder. Th
eprinters folder, could be used, to save Winxx printer drivers. Same as with NT
when you install a printer, you can add Wixx drivers and when you install that
printer the drivers are pulled from the server.

Jason,

You can have a static hostname name and domain name with a dynamic IP by
using a Dynamic service such as ml.org. Well crap, I just checked out
their home page and they've shut it down.

There is somebody else providing this type of service, but I cannot
remember who right now.

But it IS possible!
