Subject: ISDN both b channels??? HELP!
Date: Fri, 26 Feb 1999 16:59:52 GMT
Ok i have recently downloaded and installed kppp and set it up using
my init string that i use in windows that they gave me on the phone
(tech support peeps) anyways the settings tell the modem to dial in
and automatically connect the second bchannel...well it readds the
command says "OK" but it never connects the second bchannel unless the
connectino gets really busy...but when it connects the second
channel...it doesnt' download any faster ... the following is the init
string i use for my USR Courier-I external modem:
&f1 *v2=5 s67=0 s68=64 s69=0 *d0=1 *p=3
this should turn off the money saving feature for ISDN and tell it to
automatically connect both channels if two ports are available... any
thoughts help? email is [EMAIL PROTECTED] and icq # is 2771418

Sendmail is trying to resolve you're hostname, which isn't working. You
probably set a nameserver in /etc/resolv.conf which cannot be reached during
boot. Try the line "order hosts, bind" in /etc/host.conf, and enter your IP
in /etc/hosts.

First, be sure the connection between NT and Linux is working. After that,
focus on IP-Masq.
First step:
make sure ping works in both directions
Second step:
Try telnetting from the NT box to the Linux box
Last step:
Implement IP-Masq

I've never used it, so it meight not work, but try the kernel/user netlink

What does that mean?
It will ping loopback
it will ping its own ip (loopback again)
but any outside ips go nowhere.
Any ideas ?

Hi,
I was looking through the set/getsockopt() manual page and
it mentions that it supports SO_SNDTIMEO and SO_RCVTIMEO and
that it requires sys/types.h and sys/socket.h. However none
of those files, in fact no file in /usr/include defines those
values! What's wrong? is it or is it not supported? I have
Red Hat Linux 5.2 kernel 2.0.36 on an Intel machine. Solaris
does have it... What are the alternatives?
TIA,

Ive got the same prob. The machine sees the card. Pings its loopback and
own ip but never sends out any packets. Is it a routing prob?
I have used ne2000 clones and get
eth0: Trigger_send() called while transmitter busy. (HUH?)
with a wd8003 it doesnt complain just never lights the tx light.
Please keep me posted if anybody figures this out.

1. does the modem answer
if yes then check if bauds match the agetty.
if not check for DTR at modem . Might be a cabling prob.
also may have modem set to ats0=0 and it will never answer. Need to
set modem to default at power on to answer or send it an init string.

Subject: Route causing ping's "operation not permitted" error
Date: 26 Feb 1999 18:58:02 GMT
Hi.
I saw similar problems in the archive of this newsgroup bu never saw any
solution. I hope I will be luckier.
I have a weird problem: I can reach a gateway but trying to access something
attached to it cause a "ping: sendto: Operation not permitted" error.
Here's my routing table:
Kernel IP routing table
Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface
10.0.62.103 10.0.63.5 255.255.255.255 UGH 1 0 0 eth1
10.0.63.5 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.255 UH 1 0 0 eth1
10.0.63.3 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.255 UH 1 0 0 eth1
10.0.63.4 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.255 UH 1 0 0 eth0
10.0.63.20 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.255 UH 1 0 0 eth0
10.0.63.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 2 0 0 eth0
10.0.63.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 2 0 0 eth1
0.0.0.0 10.0.63.20 0.0.0.0 UG 3 0 0 eth0
10.0.63.5 can be reached by eth1. I can ping it, telnet it, etc.
I have a route specifying that 10.0.63.5 should be used as a gateway to
reach 10.0.62.103. If I try to ping 10.0.62.103, I get:
PING 10.0.62.103 (10.0.62.103): 56 data bytes
ping: sendto: Operation not permitted
ping: wrote 10.0.62.103 64 chars, ret=-1
--- 10.0.62.103 ping statistics ---
1 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss
It seems that it does not know where to send the packet.
Here is what eth0 and eth1 look like:
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:60:97:53:EC:1E
inet addr:10.0.63.4 Bcast:10.0.63.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING PROMISC MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:20:AF:11:F9:AC
inet addr:10.0.63.3 Bcast:10.0.63.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING PROMISC MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
Does anybody see what is wrong about that?
Note that if I remove the route to 10.0.62.103 and I ping 10.0.63.3 from it,
the kernel does not even see the packet (as if it was discarded by eth1).
Thank you.

I'd just like to comment that I too have been having trouble using an NE2000
card (tried four different NE2000 cards, actually) and an EtherLink III (using
the 3c509 driver). The 3c509 always works perfectly, wither it's at eth0 or
eth1, but the NE2000 never works. The ne driver loads and tells me
everything's cool, but it can't seem to communicate with the rest of the
world. The most I get out of it is one quick blink of the LEDs on the back of
the card. The 3c509 is at 10,0x210 and the ne is at 3,0x300. I'll try loading
the 3c509 first and then the ne and see what happens and report back. The only
problem is that they're both in the kernel and the ne always loads first (or
last, in which case I don't know what to do).
So if anybody can tell me any other dirty secrets regarding the ne2000 and
3c509, please do. Thanks.

I'm not an expert on modems, and I don't have a Zoom modem,
but it seems to me that your modem is not responding "OK" when expected.
If I were in that position, I would try sending these codes to the modem,
eg using "cu", and see how it responds.

Subject: Diald on Sparc Redhat 5.2
Date: Thu, 25 Feb 1999 17:41:21 -0500
I'm trying to get "diald" to work on a Sparc 5 running Redhat 5.2. I
got the laatest source (0.16.5), and after commenting out undefined
signals from "diald.c", got it to compile successfully. When the
program runs, it generates a LOT (thousands) of syslog messages saying
"Stray signal 10 ignored", and does not work. A little investigation
revealed the offending line of code is in "firewall.c" in the
"check_firewall" routine:
if (FW_TCP_STATE(term->offset))
v = (lflags.tcp_flags >> term->shift) && term->mask;
else
v = (ntohl(*(int *)(&(FW_IN_DATA(term->offset)?data:pkt)
[FW_OFFSET(term->offset)]))
>> term->shift) & term->mask;
I changed the code to:
if (FW_TCP_STATE(term->offset))
v = (lflags.tcp_flags >> term->shift) && term->mask;
else
/*
v = (ntohl(*(int *)(&(FW_IN_DATA(term->offset)?data:pkt)
[FW_OFFSET(term->offset)]))
>> term->shift) & term->mask;
*/
if (FW_IN_DATA(term->offset))
{
v = (ntohl(data[FW_OFFSET(term->offset)])
>> term->shift) & term->mask;
} else {
v = (ntohl(pkt[FW_OFFSET(term->offset)])
>> term->shift) & term->mask;
}
The program runs and connects, does not generate the stray SIGBUS traps,
but now randomly crashes the system every few hours. Any suggestions?
Anyone know of a Diald replaacement that does on demand PPP
connections? I don't have a fixed IP address from the ISP, so PPPD
alone probably won't work.
Thanks!!

browsing.
