Start the machine in single user mode and correct your problem. It
sounds that the network card is not being configured correctly so check
the config of the card.

to start in single user mode at the lilo prompt type linux single
providing you have named the linux config linux.....

Subject: Printing to a QMS2425 printer
Date: Thu, 1 Apr 1999 13:29:46 -0600

I am trying to print to a QMS 2425 network printer. Currently the printer
only shows that a job appears, but the job is empty and nothing prints. I know
that at least it is talking to the printer because I can telnet to the printer
and then send a job and the printer queue updates, but the number of pages is
zero and the data size is zero. I am doing this using lpd and sending jobs
using who | lpr. Here is a copy of the relevant portion of my printcap file

t3qms:remote-t3qms:\
        :lp=/dev/null:sh\
        :sd=/var/spool/lpd/t3:\
        :if=/usr/lib/lpd/filter-t3:
t3qms-remote:\
        :lp=/dev/null:sh:\
        :rm=T3QMS:\
        :rp=raw:\
        :sd=/var/spool/lpd/t3-raw:

You can ignore the filter, it is a simple filter that calls t3qms-remote. I got
that off of a website or something. T3QMS is in my hosts as the printer IP. I
have tried many ways of setting this up and the HOWTO simply mentions that it
can be done, but doesn't say how. Even the remote printing section is a little
vague unless I am just reading it wrong (maybe, i've missed simpler things).
Anyway, if anyone can respond with a simple remote printing entry for printcap
or a solution, I would be much obliged.

Since someone asked...

E-commerce can mean a lot of things. There are lots of sources for
some e-commerce components, such as SSL web servers, shopping carts,
et cetera.

I thought I'd mention that our company sells the e-commerce component
that actually causes money to move from one person to another. Our
software lets you actually accept payment. For more information, see
our web site at "http://www.hks.net/".

Thanks. I was suspecting someone would mention this. This is a
possibility, but a nasty, nasty headache to reconfigure all the clients on
LAN A. It also segments my network (I have only 64 IP's to work with, and
not a full class C). There will only be a few clients on LAB B at a time,
so I'm hedging this one for the moment.

Another thing I forgot to mention, and the reason I looked at bridging in
the first place, is that I want to run some windows networking between
computers on both sides. What I'm really after is a way to suck the needed
packets off of LAN A and pump them over to LAN B, and vice verse. I can't
find anything that'll let me do that, based on MAC addresses.

Allen,
While I have no comment on RedHat's Support, I will offer an idea to
your simple problem.
The cause is more than likely that both cards are using the same IRQ. You
might want to check that first.

Date: Thu, 01 Apr 1999 21:29:30 GMT

My NIC (SMC9432BTX) doesn't work with versions 1.04+ of epic100.c. No packets
are transmitted. I have decided to replace the driver (v1.04) with the old one
of 2.0.35 kernel (v0.99B) and it works.

As I upgraded to 2.2.4 kernel with epic100.c, v1.06 and 1.07, it doesn't work.

As all seems to be fine with version 0.99B of the driver, I think there's a
problem in new versions of epic100.c.

Has anyone experienced the same problem ?

Thanks in advance...

I believe there is a switch that you can pass to diald to make it work
fine (when you have a static IP). It's something to do with the buffer
- check man diald.

It specifically says that it will work in the FAQ. (I belive that's

If you could also list where the suggested software can be found, that
would be quite helpful.

It is, indeed... but it seems to be working, since the problems start
after the chat script finishes, it seems.

The ~ always starts the ppp string (all that garbage... ) AFAIK. It
seems like it makes sense, though it really isn't necessary, AFAICS.

This is probably a good idea.

I'm experimenting the following problem: dumping the IP packets with

My configuration is the following:
1) RedHat 5.2
2) the new kernel 2.2.5
3) the upgrades for new kernel suggested on RedHat (net-tools,
initscripts,etc.)
4) the latest isdn/isdn4k-utils (taken from ftp.suse.de the last 30
march)

Someone knows the solution?
Is it a real problem or I can live with it?

Any help to this mysterious situation.

The short answer; It's a Winmodem. Your screwed. :-) <this was a quote
from a very frustrated person about the answers he was getting>

The long answer, no one has written drivers for Winmodems, because no one
will release the specs for there striped cards. A Winmodem is where most of
the modem is removed and emulated in software. Loads the CPU, and is
non-portable.

Hi,

I am almost at breaking point with this. I have read every conceivable
thread on installing an BT Speedway ISDN card and setting it up for Internet
access I am at a loss. I read this cool web page (I think by a Demon
Internet customer) on how to do it but I just can't get the ISDN4LINUX utils
to compile.

I have downloaded both the 1998 and v3.0beta2 with no luck. I run "make
config" fine (just setting my city and country code details) and it seems to
go fine. I do "make" and it cracks.

HELP PLEASE!!!!

PS. Does anyone have a script by which to access BT Internet? I have no
idea how to assign my IP address dynamically (as I think that's how they
work).
