Does this just not work or am I missing something?
I've gone to such ridiculous extremes:
<Limit all>
IgnoreHidden on
</Limit>
<Directory /*>
HideGroup root
<Limit all>
IgnoreHidden on
</Limit>
</Directory>
And it still doesn't work. The HideGroup part works; the files are
invisible. But they can still be retrieved, the invisible directories can be
changed to, etc. Surely this ain't right.

Is this "script", if that's what it is, what enables on-demand dial to PPP?
If so, where can I find it under RH52 and how can I configure it to respond
to Netscape, StarOffice, etc.?

Subject: Internet sharing one card or two
Date: Sat, 20 Mar 1999 09:28:05 GMT
Hi, I was wondering if a particular setup was possible with Linux. I have a
cable connection and I have been able to use Linux, MacOS (using IPNetrouter
and Viacom gateway) and Windows 95/NT (using Wingate) to share the connection
with other computers. But in almost every case I had to have two ethernet
cards in one of the computers. One to connect to the cable modem and the
other to connect to the other computer/hub. However, I have also been able
to connect the cable modem directly to the hub (via ethernet) and then to
connect all of the computers directly to the hub, with each computer only
needing one ethernet card. This is with only one Internet IP address. I have
only been able to do this on the Macintosh using IPNetrouter. I was
wondering if a similar setup is possible with linux.
IPNetRouter has some instructions for both types of sets here:
Two ethernet cards:
http://www.sustworks.com/products/ipnr/gettingstarted/enet2_cablemodem.html
One ethernet card:
http://www.sustworks.com/products/ipnr/gettingstarted/enet1_cablemodem.html
It's interesting because the 'server' computer only has one ethernet
interface/ card but this card is essentially assigned two ip addresses.
I realize that the stardard 2 ethernet card configuration is optimal,
especially for security reasons, but the single ethernet option could be
useful in situations where I don't want to have to turn the 'server' computer
on or not use it as a 'server' for some other reason. In these cases I could
just reconfig one of the 'client' machines to use dhcpcd to connect to the
Cable/Internet instead of a manualy assigned internal network IP.
This not too pressing, mostly for curiosities sake. It would be interesting
if this were only possible on a Macintosh, or at least only on a machine
using the mentat streams architecture.

Take a pass - not a lot of the cool Solaris free and commercial software seems
to run on it right now. Although, if all you want is a NFS server....
If you do go the used Sparc route you have to be aware of 2 things: the OS itself
and service. In my opinion, anyone selling used Sparcs without software licenses
ought to be shot - after all the people that are selling the older Sparc to the
used dealer certainly had a license for the OS when _they_ bought the machine,
it's not like Sun sells the things brand new sans-license.
What a lot of people that sell used Sparcs seem to like to do is advertise the
systems with solaris loaded on it - completely ignoring the fact that a CDROM of
Solaris is a requirement if you ever want to reinstall the OS. It's not like WinBlows
where if you have all the *.CAB files you can reinstall at will.
If you buy the used Sparc without a software CD then plan on another $2K on
getting one, also plan on paying for Sun service for at least a while - Sun doesn't
let you into their main patch area without a service contract.

I don't it is the speed, because in Windows 98 after the connection the post
terminal will require to key in "PPP" and after which the garbage will
appear and you to key in "F7" to stop the garbage or acknowledgement.

HI,
1 NIC 3 NICs 3 NICs 1NIC
src router1 router2 sync
15.15.15.4 15.15.15.1 15.15.16.1 15.15.16.4
15.15.15.2 15.15.16.2
130.89.67.56 15.15.15.3
Here is the configuration of a network I should have for an experimenta
setup.
Now what happens is the machines cann't ping beyond a singleIP(with same
first 6 digits from left and diff right most digits) on the same
machine, I want to know this ??????
15.15.15.x
if one is being pinged the other doesn't work. Is there any reason that I
cann't give IP in the same domain to a single Computer?
Suppose on router1 machine
If I ping 15.15.15.2 it cann't 15.15.15.1(even itself then how can it ping
others as 15.15.15.1 is put as gw on other machines) I have tried route add
with 15.15.15.1 then it gets pinged but not the 15.15.15.2.
So what is teh problem?
Please give me the solution for this !!
Thanks,
Kishore

Then you do have a PCI BIOS setup problem.

Did you run "cat /proc/interrupts" first to check for available (i.e.
unused) IRQs ? IRQ12 is usually occupied by the PS/2 mouse.

? If the DeviceManager doesn't show any IRQ in use, then the driver
doesn't, either.

The Neptune BIOS is probably just broken. I once had to fight against
a Pluto chipset that suffered from similar errors. Try setting the
motherboard's jumper used for erasing/readjusting the BIOS to the setup
default values (see manual). The Pluto board wouldn't want to recognize
a new PCI VGA card properly unless I used that method first (which I found
at DejaNews in an article written by an Intel engineer) .

If your modem is mwave (don't know the 770ED), then yes, it will not
work, and for the very simple reason that IBM absolutely refuses to
give any information about mwave to any LINUX-people. Maybe this will
will change now, maybe not. Have a look at

upgrading to 2.2.0 -> 2.2.3 I've had problems. If I compile the

since you kernel recognized the 3com.
how about, take off the 3com card and build a kernel only with the NE2000 card?
if each card compiled fine, that will narrow the problem down.
