Hello,
I have the same problem with kernel 2.2.5 and RedHat 5.2. I also configured the
ip aliasing in the kernel instead of on a module because seems that the new
kernel (version 2.2.0 and up) don't let to make it on a module. Is it true?

In the time of starting up the network the script /etc/rc.d/init.d/network says
the following:

"Enabling IPv4 packet forwarding."
"Error"
"No kernel support for devices aliasing"

Other way, if I configure the interface with ifconfig eth0:0 it works (i can
ping the new address) but I don't see the interface information with ifconfig -a
neighter exists /proc/net/aliases.
I'm confused about this behavior of the IP aliasing in the new kernel, does
somebody know why all of this things happen?

Thanks,

Absolutely. When you're responsible for a 24/7 system that has multiple
break-in attempts *every day* then paranoia isn't just a good thing, it's
part of the job description.

If there's a more secure product with a licensing scheme that's acceptable

It's very likely you have another process that is using the same IRQ as
the modem's device file is configured to use.

Do "setserial /dev/ttySx", x=whatever for the modem device file, to find which
IRQ is configured. Do "cat /proc/interrupts" to see what interrupts are
in use. You'll have to change the modem's IRQ and reconfigure, or change
the other process's IRQ.

Some examples I know about are (1) an ethernet card that used the same
IRQ as the modem, (2) a misconfigured ppp script that launched pppd twice,
and (3) a mingetty that somehow had been configured for call-in.

Subject: 2 IP addresses on the same NIC???

Hello!

At work, the NT workstations in my department are configured with 2
different IP addresses (1 NIC), and work with to 2 different NT domains and
networks (internal)

For example, my PC has 195.77.122.221 and 208.22.36.88 as IP numbers, with
255.255.255.224 and 255.255.255.0 as masks. In NT, I can ping hosts in both
subnets (with only 1 ethernet card).

I am trying to set up Linux in my computer with the same functionality, but
I only can configure eth0 with 1 IP address and its subnet.

Is it possible to get this?? I hope have explained it right....

Thanx in advance

You need to make sure your kernel supports ip aliasing (and have the module
compiled), and then you can do an "ifconfig eth0:0 ..." to set up the second
address on eth0.

Subject: Token Ring working, but MTU < 1995 bytes
Date: Thu, 15 Apr 1999 17:19:27 +0200

I have a Linux (RH5.2) PC set up as a router, with two Madge PCI TR
cards quite happily running with the Madge Alpha drivers.

Problem: I can ping from one side of the router to the other, and vice
versa. Using applications like SMB however fails -- sometimes.

Analysis: using a PING sweep, we found that packets > 1995 bytes fail.
Of course, the first thing I did was use ifconfig to change the MTU size
to a much larger figure, but to no avail. (Default seems to be 2000 for
TR.)

Speculation: This can't be a driver problem, since I see similar
behaviour with the IBM TR driver under Linux. We're PINGing a Cisco
box, which handles other packet sizes with no problems. It might be in
the ATM switch, which is under investigation. My questions for this
group are:

1) Are there any inherent Linux kernel routing packet size problems >
2000 bytes?
2) Can Linux handle forwarding of UDP broadcasts?
3) Has anyone else seen a similar problem, and can offer advice?

Thanks, and please CC me in e-mail on responses.

I wouldn't call him a nazi-like person. He probably does that because he is
also a victim of politically-correct oppression of free speech. His party
has its website on a server in Texas where they take free speech in
political matters more serious than here.

I don't know about camps in Kossovo. As far as I know the Serbs reacted
brutally on the continuous terrorist attacks of the UCK by trying to kick
the Albanians out of Kossovo. I doubt they have any camps in Kossovo, they
don't want to keep the Albanians but to get rid of them.

What this has to do with WW2 excapes me, except when you try a cheap trick
to position me like a holocaust denier.

Hello,

I have applied John Hardin's VPN patch.
ftp://ftp.rubyriver.com/pub/jhardin/masquerade/ip_masq_vpn.html

and I can use my Win95 client and establish a PPTP connection to a remote
server. However, the problem is, I cannot establish a second connection. I
have compiled my kernel with CALL ID masq enabled, and I see the CALL ID in
my log. The problem is, the CALL ID is the same for both clients, and only
the first client is allowed through.

Here's a snip of my log:

I'm not sure what the EExx messages mean, and I cannot find any
documentation on how to configure the CALL ID, if there is such a thing.

Any and all help is appreciated. Feel free to e-mail me directly.

OK, make sure that you read the MODEM howto ***again*** - try disabling a
