I'm just guessing. But maybe tcpdump is placing the card in
permicuous mode, and that allows it to work since it will
now receive all traffic on the network. This may point to
a MAC address problem. Although I can't imagine what.

I did an upgrade from RH 5.2 to Mandrake 5.3 and when I did, it no longer
recognizes my NIC. I tried going back as far as RH 5.0 then upgraded to RH
5.2 and then to MD 5.3 and the same problem. I went in to the control panel
and switched it to active, still no luck. If anyone can help it is greatly
appreciated, I hate the net with Windoze.

Hi to everybody !

I have a problem configuring my Teles 16.3 ISDN internal
card. I'm using Slackware 4.0 and i tried to configuring it
and when i make the command modprobe it gave me the followin error:

darkstar:/usr/src/isdn4k-utils# modprobe hisax io=0x581 irq=10 type=14
protocol=2
Teles 16.3c: IRQ(10) getting no interrupts during init 1
Teles 16.3c: IRQ(10) getting no interrupts during init 2
Teles 16.3c: IRQ(10) getting no interrupts during init 3
HiSax: Card Teles 16.3c not installed !
/lib/modules/2.2.3/misc/hisax.o: init_module: Device or resource busy
isdn: Device or resource busy

Any ideas why ? If somebody can help will be very apreciated.
Thank you in advance.

It's easy enough to install - it may require more steps than sendmail, but
the
docs are less cryptic; and I solved my host masquerading problem.

I'd guess innd is running, but I don't know why that would cause your
connection to get dropped.

#ps ax | grep inn

If so, as root:

#cd /etc/rc.d/init.d/innd
#./innd stop

If that take care of the problem, you'll want to remove it permenetly
with rpm .

Under config 2 you also have to specify a port. It's 3128.

Sendmail doesn't listen on 110, sendmail "only" listen's on 25 smtp.

Look into /etc/inetd.conf for a line like

pop3 stream tcp nowait root /usr/sbin/tcpd /usr/sbin/popper -s

or something similar.
If this is commented then locate your popper daemon, activate that line and
# kill -HUP <inetd.pid>

You could do
# ps ax | grep pop
to see if some pop daemon is running directly.

Hope this helps

If I had to guess, I'd guess that these providers got tired of receiving
spam from Earthlink and have denied access to the entire domain because
Earthlink refuses to deal with spam appropriately.

Just a guess...

#include "conf/m-i80386.h"

mini-inews built without difficuly, I think.

I still need to figure out how to teach nn not to read the 3 MB of
LIST stuff at startup. It looks like there's a disconnect between
the docs and the code. Good thing I have a cable modem!

I was going to post about that here, but I accidentally unsubscribed

Are you running Sendmail?

That's most likely because Sendmail attempts an IDENT on whoever telnets
to your SMTP port. That's a security measure for your benefit, but
obviously IDENT could be used in the reverse direction to find out
information about your network. (I don't know the specifics of that.)
if you don't want Sendmail to do IDENTs then you can decrease the IDENT
timeout to zero with a configuration option. Though obviously it won't
work anyway because your firewall blocks off the port...

I have running a linuxbox and 2 clients. I have cablemodem.
Samba is installed.
When i do: smbclient -L 'mypcname', sometimes i see another pc
under the Workgroup and Master header.
This while smb.conf has 'hosts.allow' and 'interfaces=192.168.0.0/24
127.'
as rules.

My questions
How is it possible i see another pc while i have those smb.conf rules?
Shouldn't those rules in smb.conf prevent this?

Has this 'hacker' deliberately connected to my LAN or is it a
consequence
of having the same networkadres provided by the same ISP?

Are the ipchains rules to block port 137:139 enough to prevent this?

Can someone as easily as connecting to my LAN also connect to my
masqueraded clients?

How can i learn more of such a 'hacker' (f.i. ip-adres)?

Appears that you are have the wrong IRQ level. You may need to set it to
10
with a DOS base utility that probably came with the card, or it is PnP and
it
is changing it on you. If so, try to turn PnP off.
