You need to upgrade to a later version of SAMBA.
If you're running redhat, you also need to change some compiler switches.
have a look at the samba installation part of my homepage:

good luck!

Hello,
I'm trying to configure a SN-3200 Ethernet adapater.
distribution is: Mandrake 5.3 (based on Redhat 5.2)
I chose not to configure any network at the time of install, but now I would
like to set it up.
My network card comes with a disk that has a kinuw driver, but
the readme doesn't explain how to install; it says vaguely I have to
type "make config" or something like that.
What should I do?
thanks for helping out a newbie.

Just try that :
add : append "ether=0,0,eth1" into your lilo.conf file (in the section of
your actual kernel of course)
This will tell lilo to search an eth1 (0,0 means autodetection) after
finding an eth0.
type "lilo" so lilo add the new parameters.
reboot

Hi,
PCI IRQ are usually (usually only) assigned by slot.
That means that for exemple, PCI slot 1 got IRQ 9, PCI slot 2 IRQ 10 and so on ...
But that sometimes fails:)
so try : append="ether, 0,0,eth1" for lilo.conf, that means autodetection for the
eth1 card.
If it fails, you must manually change the IRQ of one of your card by using jumper
ont he card or software that cames with the cards.

That one is easy. I fixed it just yesterday. Somehow you didn't install

most probably you need to edit hosts.allow and / or hosts.deny
can you telnet from the linux machine to the linux machine
( i know it makes no sense normally but you can test the inetdaemon this way)
if nothing else helps, tail /var/log/messages on the linux -box,
or try tcpdump - you get lots of new information

Hi There,
I am new to the Linux community. My background is NT. I have a small
network. One NT box, one 98 box and one Linux box. At the present time my NT
box handles my e-mail and my automated conenction to the internet through a
Proxy Server. I would like my Linux (Redhat 5.1) to take over this role.
Basically. I want my Linux box to function as a Router/Proxy and
automatically dial my ISP when it needs to - all this need to be done
without my manual intervention.
I have looked at several ways to do this, frommasquerading through to
various other ways. I have to say (and this is not a derogatory remark) that
it all seems rather convoluted to be able to do this. With NT, this kind of
setup is very easy to do. I should point out that my LAN run on the
192.168.1.x subnet.
My Linux box currently has PPP working without any problems. Can anyone
point me in the rght direction?
Thanks

When I telnet into my ISP's redhat box, telnet works fine with the
built in windows telnet program. However when I telnet into my redhat
box with the same windows telnet program i have all kinds of problems
with my arrow keys and backspace key. If i misstype a command and use
the backspace key to delete, all I get is ^H everytime I hit
backspace. When i'm editing text in vi and use the down arrow to
scroll the page, I get the letter B and it scrolls up. The other
arrow keys print other letters. What is going on here, is there a
config file I need to mess with on my redhat box?
I have tried several different telnet clients and they all do the same
thing. Using vt100. This problem does not exist when telneting into
other servers with any of the other clients.
Any suggestions?

I dont understand the relation between DNS names and NetBios Name.
Some questions:
1. for the transport (TCP/IP) layer to work (in general), is it
neccecary that name resolving(DNS or /etc/hosts) will be present (even
if I use just IP numbers) ?
2. I have a Linux router between two subnetworks that also acts as Samba
server and WINS.
Subnetworks have Win95 clients on them. IP is assigned staticly. no name
resolving mechanism is introduced. can i deduce that NetBios resolving
using WINS does not require DNS resolving whatsoever?
3. Since the router between two subnetworks acts as domain master
browser and local browser for both networks. can i stop using WINS?.
4. on the Linux machine. how do i obtain the complete list of machines
on the brows list?
Please email me a copy of your answer.

Linux 2.2 uses a more complicated algorithm for that. It estimates a
"receive mss" based on incoming packet sizes and forces an ACK when
rcvmss * 2 bytes are received. This gives better behavior for slow serial
lines.
Linux 2.0 used the MSS of the connection for the same algorithm.
The concept of the rcvmss was added with 2.2 to get better
behaviour on links with very high MTU (e.g. HIPPI), where often
implementations send bulk transfer packets with less than the announced
MSS.

When you have two way traffic you can always piggy back the ack and
you don't need much special ack sending policy.
