make sure your slzlr3 kernel is compiled with IP_FORWARDING enabled, then
echo 1 >/proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward on that machine to enable ip
forwarding.

Transfers to the FTP client are done through ports outside of the port
used by the FTP client to talk to the FTP server. Your firewall/NAT box
doesnt know that TCP port xxxxx should be forwarded to your client machine
at port xxxxx, so what you need is the kernel modules that permit
controlled passage through the firewall. Look for, compile, and install the

ip_masq_ftp module on your firewall machine.

Date: Sat, 1 May 1999 22:20:40 -0400

Hi all.

I don't know much about Linux, but I spoke to someone that
does and they really don't know what's going on either.
I have a pretty standard system, where Linux recognizes almost
all components just fine. With the exception of my Ethernet card.
It's an Intel EtherExpress 10+ ISA.
When install RH 5.2 BASED Linux distrib (BeroLinux),
it asks if I would like to add a NIC (after failing to
detect a NIC on the PCI bus, since I don't have a PCI NIC). So I do, and it
has 3 Intel cards listed- EE, EEpro, and EEpro 100.
It does NOT see either an EE or an EEPro100.
But when I select EEpro, it HANGS. Yes, It's weird.
I can still get the kernel messages, and the last one is
the Insmod of the *.o file for the adapter.

Is there something I am doing wrong? This is a 2.2.3 Kernel,
with ALL the latest updates built in.
I really need help here, since without Network access, I am forced
to go back to NT.

Thank you very much for your time,

If I set up a "Virtual Server" under Apache, what does that mean exactly. Is
it essentially just a Virtual Host (name based host) or does it have its own
set of config files and sendmail, directory structure etc. like an actual
server? Also, can someone point me towards some documentation on
"multiplexing" a Linux server into actual "Virtual Servers" like is done at
http://www.vservers.com and http://www.iserver.com. Please respond via
email.

get Netscape running.
Message was something like: the server does not have a DNS entry . check

Have you run depmod -a ?

Have you set up any options for your modules ?

If you compiled in kerneld support, have you started kerneld in one of
your boot files ?

For the rest of you who are new to linux and/or modems under linux, this content is
completely bogus. Modems do not know or care what content you download. It's all
just a byte stream.

Neither does modem firmware know about office97 upgrade paks.

There is such a CD. It is called Smart Start (and there is a second CD for
configuration
management help files). Incidentally, that CD is supposed to be loaded onto the boot
hard
drive (where 39 MB is partitioned for that purpose). Unfortunately, the people who
sold
us our Compaqs didn't load Smart Start. Consequently, in order to fix the IRQ problem,
I
had to repartition my boot hard disk, load Smart Start, and reload WinNT. That was a
pain. However, once done, I was able to solve the IRQ problem in a matter of minutes.
I'm going to send a letter to Compaq complaining about thier sloppy third party vendor.

Thank you gentlemen!

Gunther,

I read you message and think that I can help. I understand that you
have two network cards in your linuxbox, one going to subnet 1 and the
other going to subnet 2. You want to be able to have subnet 1 talk to
subnet 2 and vise versa. Here is what you are going to have to do. In the
network settings, you are going to have to enable packet forwarding between
the two network cards. OH, make sure that linux see both of your net cards
on bootup. After you enable packet forwarding you can use a program that
comes with most major distributions of linux called "ipfwadm". After
installing the program you have to set some network rules like incoming
traffic, outgoing traffic, and forwarding traffic. If you go to
metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux and read the firewall howtos etc. Also go to
www.linuxapps.com and select networking and security. I know this sounds
like a lot and I don't have many details but each setup is different. Let
me know if you still need help and keep in touch. I just setup a
configuration like yours, but it took time. Don't loose interest.
