hi,
copy the example scripts from /usr/doc/ppp-2.3.5/ modify the
ppp-on/ppp-on-dialer to suit ur needs. chmod +x ppp*. make a link to
/usr/bin eg ln -s /etc/ppp/ppp-on /usr/bin/ppp-on. ur set to go.
better still then grab diald and u have internet on demand!

Yes, it will work fine with ppp0. Get your dial up working first. Then
make sure your firewall rules (via ipfwadm or ipchains) are correct for
masquerading.

It isn't a diald problem. It's a general problem with using dynamic
addressing and masquerading.

This is not true. Diald buffers packets received on the proxy
and forwards them when the real link comes up. If you have dynamic
addresses you need to tell the kernel so via /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_dynaddr.
Even so this doesn't work with masquerading and dynamic addresses.
Newer versions of diald (from http://diald.unix.ch) attempt to
do this "better" by bouncing buffered packets back in on the proxy
so they go through the kernel's routing again. If you *don't*
masquerade on the proxy and *do* on the actual link this works
well for routed packets but not for packets originating on the
diald system itself.

Subject: telnet delay???
Date: Tue, 4 May 1999 17:58:00 -0700
Hi
I work on a private network and have come across a very puzzling problem.??
When I telnet from a windows 95 box to a linux box at out coventry site it
takes approxiamatley 1.5 minutes before I get a login prompt back?. When I
telnet to other sites from the same Windows 95 box the response is with 1 or
2 seconds. The funny thing is that when telnet from a Unix box to our
coventry site, I get a response within 1 or 2 seconds.
Anyone have any Ideas

You can use a PLIP (Parallel IP) interface (it's part of the kernel) which
you can then FTP/NFS/whatever over.

I'm not aware of anything like that. PLIP would be an option (with rcp,
say), but that's just TCP/IP over your parallel port.

You need to get the smbmount/smbumount included in the samba package.
But to install these you have to compile it with --with-smbmount.
If you want to do it a lot easier you can always get the rpm on my
homepage.
This rpm has smbmount/smbumount included in it.
See below in my signature for the right address.
Good Luck!

Is there anything better/easier to run than wu-ftpd?

Subject: tunnel question

Pictures usually say it all. So here it the situation
192.168.10.0 192.168.1.0
/255.255.255.0 | gw gw | /255.255.255.0
| aaaa bbbb |
side a |--------------------| side b
| internet |
I want to see side b on side a. Also I still want to have my own gw to
the internet.
I want it both a tunnel to side b and a gw to the internet.
I thought that a tunnel should do the trick. Till now I haven't
succeeded in getting light at the end of the tunnel.
This is what I have done.
on side a I typed :
/sbin/ifconfig tunl0 192.168.10.7 pointopoint bbbb
/sbin/route add -net 192.168.1.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 dev tunl0 gw bbbb
/sbin/route add 192.168.10.8 dev tunl0
Does this set up half of the tunnel, or is there still something wrong
here.
Same go on the other side I guess!
How is the subnet problem handled? How does side a know that the package
are both for side a and side b but not for the internet?
If anyone has any hint and tip they are welcome.
The VPN how-to is known to me but till now wasn't very helpful.
So please no mail saying "RTFM"!

I'm trying to reach NT4 server with smbmount, the manpages says I have
to mount with //servername/service, but wat is the meaning with this
"service" stuff?
My user account on the server is on the D: drive on it and the login
procedure includes a login script, is this a problem?
Second, there is no nameserver on the network, but the WINS protocol is
running on the server.
I have tried to access the server both by giving up its IP adress as
servername and the alias i have in my /etc/host file wich is the same as
the concrete server name, but all I get is
"mount error: no such device"
My system is slackware with 2.0.35 kernel and the TCP/IP connection out
to the Ethernet and Internet is working perfecly.

It means that someone may have been trying to flood your box with

...but it could just be a genuine set of information, so your computer

Ouch, hit "Send" too quickly on my previous followup.
What's the format for this file? I've had it with the single line of the
domain name for quite some time now and still have the error.

Subject: Problems Configuring two NE2000 NICs for a Firewall
Date: Tue, 4 May 1999 15:48:19 -0300
Hi,
I am currently using RedHat version 5.0 on an IBM 350-P60. Currently I have
it working with one NE2000 compatible card (ISA with software configuration
for IO and IRQ), however it does not seem to recognize the second Card. Both
NICs are the same with the working one being IO=0x300, IRQ=10 and the other
IO=0x340, IRQ=11.
The only message I see during boot up is:
loading device 'eth1'...
Then soon after
Delaying eth1 initialization
I have a book that had suggested modifying the Space.c file for eth1 so
the probe would check for it. However after running the new kernel the
problem still remained.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Andrew

Could you specify that more clearly, it seems that we have also

What would be the solution?
