rewrites the MasterBootRecord. Very nice feature for getting rid of boot

I installed Red Hat 6.0 and compiled kernel version 2.2.8 with ip masq
support, but can't get it to masquerade. I installed ipchains, set
ipforwarding on and created the appropriate chains in my rc.local. I've had
this working well in RH5.2 with 2.2.2 and RH5.9 and 2.2.7.
/proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward is '1'.  I can't think
of anything else to try. Has anyone successfully masqueraded with
RH6 and 2.2.8?

There is special section about callback with Linux. If you have M$ server and
Linux client, you have to recompile pppd with CBCP support. RTFM.

Hi,

Can you help me to configure the NFS sever on Linux 5.2
I have problem to export /home directory to the client.

I want to export a /home directory from hosts1 to hosts2 and allow all
users
to mount and (rw) .

Following are my config files and daemons on the server. On the client
side,
I don't have any problem with other NFS servers.

The account on both client and server are maching UID/GID .

Steps 1:  Edit /etc/exports
          /home hosts2(rw)    # or /home hosts2.washington.edu

Steps 2: Run exportfs -a  or /etc/rc.d/init.d/nfs stop/start

Steps 3: Edit /etc/hosts.allow
         hosts2.washington.edu

Steps 4: Restart rpc.mountd to read /etc/hosts.allow

Check all the NFS daemons:

# ps xau

root       253  0.0  0.3   776   400  ?  S   May 11   0:00 inetd
root      2277  0.0  0.2   780   340  ?  S    07:54   0:00 rpc.rusersd
root      2499  0.0  0.4  1076   584  ?  S    08:42   0:00 rpc.nfsd
root      2506  0.0  0.4  1068   600  ?  S    08:44   0:00 rpc.mountd
bin        197  0.0  0.3   784   432  ?  S   May 11   0:00 portmap

Sometime I reboot the system after config, but doesn't help !

Here is the error message I got when run mount command.

Can't access /home: Permission denied

Can you tell me what I have missing ?

Thanks in advance

Subject: PAP Authentication Failure - via null modem

I have two Debian 2.1 linux computers
connected by a null modem cable.

Both computers work well, and both
serial ports have tested good.

When I attempt to logon on to the server
, the client receives ;

Login incorrect

LCP  terminated by peer(Authentication
failed)

Looking at the server log I see the
client has indeed sent the correct user
and password, despite this
authentication fails. I have created a
user account, xxx, with the proper
password, yyy, on the server.

I have done this in the past

What would cause authentication to fail

Any suggestions would be greatly

Subject: DNS blues...

Hi,
    Im a bit confused (too much reading...) I want to setup a couple of
nameservers, one master (authoritive), one slave. I need to do this so i
can add virtual hosts. My ISP was willing to help me with one URL, and
that took over a week (after Internic finished with my name...) so... my
ISP sucks, i need to do as much as i can, so i dont have to rely on
them. Now, Im told (i guess i dont completely understand this DNS
thing...) that after internic sets up your name, you need to configure
the name servers assigned to that URL to route the new address where you
want (ip address...). So I guess i need to do that right? if my ISP
wont, then i guess i must. I have 5 static ip addresses, and i wnat to
use one for the web/mailserver, which will host many websites with their
own URL (i can setup the webserver to do virtual hosts just fine...)
So, On my linux system, do i need to configure NIS,
ypbind(server/client)...
cant i just configure named? if so... how... ive been mucking things up
soo bad, i dont know what files should have what?
can anyone out there send me a list of files i need? assume these for
sending me examples :
domain: blah.com
master nameserver: ns.blah.com
secondary nameserver ns2.blah.com
primary ns, and webserver's ip are: 123.123.123.123
Im using slakware upgraded to kernel 2.2.7,
What should i have in /etc/named.conf, hosts.allow/deny/equiv,
/var/yp/???, /etc/resolv.conf, /etc/hosts, well... i believe there are
some others i cant remember right now...

Please send samples, and clues!

Erm, have you looked at the PPP-HOWTO? It's probably residing in
/usr/doc/HOWTO, along with many other useful docs...

If you run pppd with the -d option and configure /etc/syslog.conf so that
*.debug is sent to /var/log/messages, you can trace back the hangup sequence,
and figure out who closed the connection. It might be your ISP.

I've got DHCP v1.0.2 running on Linux 2.2.5. I am trying to use it to
provide IPs to all my Windows based PCs on my network. Here is how I have
it set up.

>>dhcpd.conf file
default lease-time 600;
max-lease-time 7200;
option subnet-mask 255.255.255.0;
option broadcast-address 192.168.0.255;
option routers 192.168.0.3;
option domain-name-servers 199.118.120.4, 199.118.120.2;
option domain-name "mydomain.com";

subnet 192.168.0.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {
    range 192.168.0.100 192.168.0.150
}

>>
I then ran the command to get Windows clients to see the Linux DHCP server
as follows:
    route add -host 255.255.255.255 dev eth0

>>
I then started the DHCP server in debugging mode with the command:
    /usr/sbin/dhcpd -d -f

>>
When I bring up a Win98 machine and use the <RENEW ALL> button on the
WINIPCFG window I get these messeges on my Linux machine.

DHCPDISCOVER from (MAC address) via eth0
DHCPOFFER on 192.168.0.100 to (MAC address) via eth0
DHCPREQUEST for 192.168.0.100 from (MAC address) via eth0
DHCPACK on 192.168.0.100 to (MAC address) via eth0
DHCPINFORM from 192.168.0.100

>>
It looks like it works fine, and when I go to that PC and type <<arp -a>>
it responds that 192.168.0.100 has been assigned to it. Great I think.
However, when I go back into WINIPCFG to check settings there, it shows
NOTHING! It reports the DHCP server as 255.255.255.255 when it should be
192.168.0.25. That's all it reports. No IP, no Gateway, no Lease Obtained
info, no Subnet Mask, nothing!! All of which should be assigned to it by
the DHCP server. If anyone can offer me any suggestions as to why this
might be, it would be greatly appreciated. I have been spinning my wheels
on this for days now. Thanks a lot.

Put
route del default
into /etc/rc.d/rc.local (on redhat)
You should NOT have a default route unless you already have an ethernet connection to
the
internet. Redhat however decides that if you have an ethernet, you must want it to be
your
default route.
