necesito un poco de ayuda para conectar mi portatil al ordenador de
sobremesa a traves de targetas de red ethernet, llevo varios dias
intentandolo sin exito, he leido hau-tus, man pages y modificado archivos
pero no consigo conectarlos, tengo hasta ma�ana de plazo para conseguirlo y
este me ha parecido el lugar mas idoneo para hacer esta consulta.
el portatil con Suse:
rou.mierda.net ip: 125.1.3.88 mask: 255.0.0.0 gw: 125.1.0.222
el de sobremesa con Red hat:
rotxa.mierda.net ip: 125.1.5.0 mask: 255.0.0.0 gw 125.1.0.222
porque no consigo conectarlos?
alguien me puede enviar un ejemplo de 2 pc�s en red?
que archivos he de configurar?
que estoy haciendo mal?

cada uno tiene su targeta ethernet, pero llevamos varios dias intentando
conectarlos sin exito, hemos utilizado herramientas de configuracion de
redes como el netcfg, o el yast de Suse, hemos leido hau-tus y man pages,
incluso lo hemos intentado siguiendo un articulo de Solo Linux, que lo
ponian tan facil que no se metian en detalles, pero algo nos falla o se nos
olvida activar algun script en el que demos permiso a cada una de las
maquinas para que pueda entrar en la otra.
hoy es viernes 14 y ma�ana tenemos que hacer una peque�a presentacion para
tenerla preparada el lunes, si por favor alguien puede echarnos un cable le
estaremos ethernamente agradecidos, os dejo un e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I am trying to network win98/linux and I am using two Linksys 100baseTX
NIC's. Well what I am having trouble with is on the linux machine the
hub light wont stay on. it is very unstable. I did the ifconfig and it
was there and everything is right. The other day I did something (cant
remember what though) and it stablized the hub light. If any of you have
any ideas on what I should do, please respond.

Hi.
Of course, there is a script capability on Samba.
All is desribed in DOMAIN.TXT in Samba doc.
The first thing you have to do is to create a public share named netlogon.
In this directory you can place a startup script (usually *.bat - e.g.
startup.bat)
Then, in smb.conf, you'll set:
logon script=startup.bat
domain logons=yes
workgroup=mydomain (for example)
And on W98 machine, in config. of MS network client, set Logon to domain and
in array "name of domain" write mydomain.
On the next logon, the startup script should be ran.

enchufar el ordenador a un cable telefonico de una red y conseguir que
funcione, osea darle a mi portatil una identidad IP con la que pueda
conectarme a su red, pero si no he conseguido aun hacerlo en mi casa dudo
que pueda hacerlo en la prueba. esto es lo que tengo en casa:

I have just installed a Linux Slackware but I have trouble setting up my
network card.
It is a D-Link 530TX PCI 10/100 Mbps.
When I first installed Linux the original server that came with recognised
the card as a D-Link 660 portable network card but it couldn�t find it on
the appropriate I/O address.
I tried recompiling the server using the tulip driver (since the
documentation says that this driver should support all D-Link cards) but
nothing happened (No message during boot about the network card). The same
when I used the NE2000 PCI.
The problem is that I am new with Linux and I don�t know many things.
I know that my card is PnP so the IRQ and the I/O address are not set with
jumpers. I can find out about them through the Windows control panel but I
am not sure if they will work with Linux since they are set up by the
windows driver.
Any help will be appreciated

I have a well-functioning SuSE 6.0 setup, which uses the 2.0.36
kernel. I downloaded the 2.2.5 sources from SuSE and compiled
them, and it runs fine *except* that all network operations fail with
"Network Unreachable".
does anybody have a clue here what might be going on? I've tried
a bunch of different compile configurations with no effect on the
symptom.
I'd rather not upgrade to SuSE 6.1 just over something dumb like
this.

IF YOU WANT TO CHANGE A FILE OUTPUTTED BY A PROGRAM:
In UNIX type systems you can change the file descriptors. 0 is standard
input, 1 is standard output, and 2 is standard error. When the program
needs to write to a file another descriptor is opened. The only way I see
is to guess which one the file has. Just start at a descriptor higher than
2.
">&n" changes the output for descriptor #n
IF YOU ARE TRYING TO OUTPUT STDOUT AND STDERR INTO A FILE:
prog >&2 >> file
I am not sure if you need to use a >> for >&2.

The problem: Setting up an ssh/PPP tunnel between two masq'd LANs, I
cannot ping any machine _past_ either gateway from a remote machine.
It seems like a routing or forward problem, but not sure. Below are
the current routing and forwarding rules.
Our setup is pretty simple. We have several Linux-based gateways at
each site. Each gateway has a static IP with some ISP, and that site's
LAN masqerades behind that. All our internal machines can talk through
the gateway to the Internet with no problem, so I know basic routing
and masquerading works fine.
On each gateway, in addition to the connection to the outside world, we
want to add a VPN to each site. (used VPN howto:
http://metalab.unc.edu/LDP/HOWTO/mini/VPN.html)
I have successfully constructing a tunnel using ssh and PPP. For example,
consider networks 10.0.1.0 and 10.10.10.0. Any machine on 10.10.10.0 can
ping the remote gateway (10.0.1.16), and any machine on 10.0.1.0 can ping
their remote gateway (10.10.10.1). However, any machine cannot ping any
other machine _beyond_ the remote gateway.
After the ssh/PPP tunnel is established, I simply add a single routing
rule for the remote VPN network (route add -net 10.10.10.0 gw 192.168.0.8)
on each side.
Any ideas why packets stop at the remote gateway? Maybe a masq or regular
forwarding rule needs to be added?
I have already tried a straightforward ipfwadm forwarding rule on each
gateway, without success.
