I have a machine with one RTL8029 based Nic and three RTL8019 Nic's.
If i try to set up the RTL8019 based cards in netconf using different
adresses it seems to work.
But the next time i run netconf all the cards have the same io/irq
adfresses!!

Has anyone seen this before and is willing to help.

What command are you using to set the default route? It looks like you
should be using something like:

route add default gw 194.159.73.222

Use the '-n' option when using route or netstat to view your routing table
otherwise they will try to do a dns lookup for each address in the routing
table. Of course if you can't contact the dns server you will wait a long
time for a response.

The fact that you are getting connected pretty much eliminates your modem/TA
as the source of your problems. It really sounds like just a routing issue
(maybe even just a typo somewhere).

Hi,

Paraphrasing from David Ranch's Trinity OS doc.
'www.ecst.csuchico.edu/~dranch/LINUX/TrinityOS.wri - which is a damn good read, if
you've got a spare afternoon.

>From a security perspective, it is always better to reject external packets.
Reject lets a hacker know you are not accepting packets on that port. With Deny,
the hacker knows you are there, and deduces (s)he is being filtered.. Reject
makes your box look dumber.

I have been to Donald Becker's web site,
downloaded the latest 3c59x.c file (which includes
fixes for the 3c905B card). I rebuilt the kernel
(version 2.0.36) and now at boot the 3c905B card
is recognized but the kernel panics when it cannot
mount the root device

PARTITION CHECK:
VFS: CANNOT OPEN ROOT DEVICE 08:01
KERNEL PANIC: VFS: UNABLE TO MOUNT ROOT FS ON 08:01

I have checked with rdev the kernel is looking for
/dev/sda1 (which is correct).

The default Redhat 5.2 kernel (2.0.36) boots and
finds the root device with no problem; however it
cannot identify the 3c905B card. Any thoughts?
I'm stumpted.

Thanks,
Jim Barker

These scripts are just simple shell scripts. I think the execute
permissions need to be set.

I have the ip-up and ip-down scripts in the /etc/ppp directory.
Nothing in particular needs to be done specify them.

The man page for pppd should have more details. The pppd source
file archive also has several example scripts.

eingeschraenktes Routing realisiere.

meine Zwecke schon ausreichend.

Aber ein aktives Wegloeschen waere noch nuetzlicher.

Gruss

Detlef

Hi,
I have installed RH 6.0 with 2.2.9 Kernel and PCMCIA 3.0.10 on a IBM
Think Pad 760E
and am trying to use a IBM Token Ring Auto 16/4 Credit card adapter with
no luck.
Apparently it is a memory problem, but I can't figure out the correct
memory range
for mmiobase. For example, if I give the mmio to be anything less than
0xd4000 it says
memory range in use. If I use 0xd4000 it accepts it, switches to 4 Mbps
and gives
adapter error :ISRP_EVEN: 04. I have turned off the high memory
locations from pcmcia/config.opts.
Has anyone successfully used a IBM Token Ring PCMCIA card with a 2.2.x
kernel? What
memory locations did you use?

Thanks much for all your help

I am using Kernel 2.0.34 , ipfwadm. The Linux box contains the modem.
With 98% of web sites it works great but with a few sites, computers
behind the firewall can not connect while the Linux box can? One of
these sites is American Airlines: www.aa.com. The outgoing packets seem
to get to the AA server but the server does not send back any pages?

What could be causing this problem?

For the clusters which I have setup we've always done things so that no
one box is essential (except for one cluster where we only had one box
which controlled everything, but then it would only be that one box which
was essential). Maybe the person who asked is doing it a different way,
but you may want to see what could be done so as to rid whatever makes you
dependent upon every box being up.

You can use the configuration disk that came with the card to set these. I

I am using a wireless ISP, the equipment i have has a hardcoded ip address,
one for the cable modem box X.X.X.139 and one for my nic card X.X.X.140.

When using win95/98 I have to leave my nics ip address set to obtain one

It then pulls it from the cable/modem box. X.X.X.140.

I was wondering if I can put this on my linux box, so I can share it on my
network.
If so how do I setup my routing to use the hardcoded ip address.

I am familiar with linux routing, I just need to know if this would work
with a hardcoded address.
or if linux can pull the address from the cable modem.

and I want internal 100mb between all machines.

what is the proper way to set this up?

one dsl line has a netopia modem, the other has a flowpoint 2200 router.

To suggest the obvious, use `make bzImage` or else reduce the kernel size
by using modules.

Better yet, use `make bzlilo` to make the image and automatically have it
installed with LILO.

eepro=0x210,03
eepro=0x210,3,0

For all of these I get an error saying it can' find my card. I've allso
tried the eexpress drive like this:
eexpress=0x210,3.

That, of course, also doesn't work.

Any suggestions or guesses?

The Olitec PCI 56000 is a Windows-only software modem. It will not work
with Linux :(

Subject: Routing of ip-broadcasts possible?
Date: 24 May 1999 18:31:10 GMT

Hello everyone.

I wonder if routing of ip broadcast packages is possible using linux.
Please let me know if you have an idea on how to solve this. Thank you!

The scenario:

If have two subnets (192.168.0.* and 192.168.1.*) which are connected
via a Linux box. The ip forwarding works pretty fine. I can reach every
computer on the other subnet. But: my workstations tries to find a specific
service via IP-Broadcast. The service can be found on different computers.
All services reply to this broadcast, except those on the other subnet.
I assume, that Linux does not forward broadcasts to other subnets, because
they are addressed to 192.168.0.255 (for example). Does anyone know, if
I could configure my linux to relay all received broadcasts on one
adapter (for example eth0=192.168.0.1) to another (eth1=192.168.1.1) ?

Thank you very much for your help.

BTW: I am using Linux kernel 2.2.9 with ipchains.

Thanks again.

Bye,
 Levent ([EMAIL PROTECTED])
