Hi I'm trying to find a way to automatically email the IP address to a

Or can I make a 'dynamic' webpage telling the IP address of my home

Any comment is appreciated,

So, I know hotmail is using Apache on Unix.
Note that some servers include some information about the backing OS

One of the easier ways to do it is to download a X-windows server for 9x
and then also get F-Secure (ssh) for 9x. Then install ssh (secure
shell) on you linux box.
The ssh is used to forward X11 configurations between the machines. You
log onto the linux box via F-Secure from the 9x machine. Start up the
X-Windows server, then run an X based program/command in your F-Secure
window. Give it a little while and and it should popup the window.
Your linux box will be doing all of the processing, and your 9x machine
will pretty much become a dumby terminal. But chances are that you
won't be able to run X-Windows from the linux box on the 9x machine.
You can only run programs.
Some X-servers out there are Xwin32, eXceed, and OminX. I've used all
of them and they all work pretty well. Some are faster than others, but
some also cost more than others too. Most of these have a demo version,
or you can find a hacked version on the net if you know where to look.
Good luck, and I hope this helped.

I have the same problem with Redhat 6.0.
/etc/localtime -> ../usr/share/zoneinfo/US/Pacific
/etc/sysconfig/clock:
UTC="no"
ARC=false
The hwclock is set to localtime, so that time works fine under
windows. I've configured linux to see the hwclock stored in local
time. Yet after a few hours, the time gets reset back 7 hours.
I do not have ntpd daemon running, nor any cron jobs, so I'm baffled
why it'll reset itself.

I'm kind of newbie in Linux. I just installed Redhat linux5.2 but I got
problem in setting up the dial-up networking. I just try to follow the
procedures listed in a linux book. Unfortunatelly, I couldn't get through.
My dial-up will be between my home and the school internet service. I have

check program under Win98:

Maximum Fax transmit 14400bps,
Chip Set ID: LTV.90 Data+Fax+Voice Modem, 5.04
Chip Set Version: 5.04, 4, 19, 11 C1
If anybody can give me some advices so I can work out this problem, I really
appreciate it.

It probably would have been better to just upgrade your RH5.2 system to RH6.0,
at least that's what I did and everything worked perfectly. As far as the
network card, the only thing I can suggest is to make sure you netmasks match.
I would also guess that if computer running RH says the NIC is fine, check the
cable, connection, and the NIC on the other machine. As far as the kernel
goes, I know nothing about compiling kernels, sorry.
Just a few hints, I hope they help.

In Australia (not rally applicable to your case tho) the owner of the domain
applies for the domain change and provides a fax to our registrant on company

Subject: Quake/Quake2 across ipchains firewall?

I'm having a hard time getting Quake/Quake2 packets across the ipchains
firewall. This is on a RH v5.2 box (upgraded to kernel v2.2.x and glibc
v2.1.1) running modutils v2.1.121 and ipchains v1.3.8.
The IP Masq How-To says to use this to enable Quake/Quake2 packets across
ipchains:
/sbin/modprobe ports=ip_masq_quake 26000,27000,27910
while the correct syntax for modprobe is:
/sbin/modprobe ip_masq_quake ports=26000,27000,27910
Alas, even this 2nd command line doesn't work for me. The module doesn't
seem to like this parameter syntax:
/lib/modules/2.2.9/ipv4/ip_masq_quake.o: invalid parameter ports
Note that all other ip_masq_* modules load without error on this system.
Any advice on how to get Quake/Quake2 working across ipchains?
Thank you.

This is just a thought, but did you set up DNS servers for you ISP?
Without these Netscape can't find the names of the webservers that you
are trying to go to. You will probably have to call the ISP and ask
them what the IP addresses of their DNSs are.
Good luck.

Hi:
When you make an application with Network Solutions to
change the hosting of your domain name, the
[EMAIL PROTECTED] will send a MODIFY DOMAIN notice by
e-mail to all parties named in the registration. All that is
required is that two of the contacts reply and acknowledge
the changes.
What you have to do is find an alternate hosting service who
will provide you with DNS nameservice OR secure an
independent DNS nameserver company for your domain.
I have had a similar situation as you describe and I highly
recommend securing your own nameserver service. Check out
www.realdns.com - they will do your primary and secondary
nameservice for peanuts ($2 per year!!!) and they are great!
They will even host a basic web page for you for $5 a year
until you get a new hosting service for your page.
Even when you do get a new hosting service and a static IP
for your domain, I still recommend you retain the DNS
service yourself - this gives you the flexibility and final
word over your domain. Some hosting outfits object to this
but you can insist - it is after all your domain and less
work for them.
Some outfits have attempted to charge up to $20 a month JUST
to host the DNS service, preying on the ignorance of new
netizens. Check out realdns.com for $2 a year AND the first
90 days are free! Their web based DNS configuration system
is easy BUT please read their documentation so you know what
you're doing.
There is also a totally free nameservice called
granitecanyon.com but they are much more difficult to deal
with when there is a problem. e-mail is rarely answered,
their news server is dead (which they recommend for help)
and the registration for service is problematic. I think
once you are up on their system it is pretty good but
getting the SOL (start of authority) and RRs (resource
records) correctly configured has been quite difficult in
the past.
If you need more help on this subject, just e-mail me. Been
there, done that, got the T-shirt.
Just one guys opinion.
Best regards,

I've got three win98 machines on a network that I'm trying to setup a
fourth machine running Redhat 6.0. On one of the win98 machines I'm
running Sygate so all the others can get access to the internet (works
great)
Ok now the problem :) I can run netscape on the Linux machine and if
I type in the name of the web page I want to goto it can't find it but
if I type in the IP address boom I go right there. The same for gftp
if I use the IP it hooks right up but when typing in by name it
doesn't hook up. I know it must be some setting in samba but I have
no idea.
All the machines can ping all the rest, Linux to win98 and win98 to
Linux.
Any help would be a value and someday maybe I can return the favor.
Thanks Bear
