Hello:
I have a similar setup, WIN98 and Linux (Slakware). However, I can't get them
to talk. It has been suggested that my WIN98 setup may be the problem.
My configuration is as follows:
WIN98 IP:192.168.1.110 Mask:255.255.255.0
Linux: IP:192.168.1.100 Mask:255.255.255.0
The linux system boots up with out a problem (SMC NIC), it detected the ethernet
hardware ok. I have the hosts file properly structured, netestat looks
ok. At the linux box, when I ping for localhost and for 192.168.1.100
there are no problems, all packet sent are received. However, when I
ping for the win98 system (192.168.1.110) I get no reply. At the win 98
system I can ping both localhost and 192.168.1.110 but I can't ping the
linux box. In other words, the systems are not able to talk at all. I
have connected them using a crossover (NULL) cable as suggested in the
Ethernet-HOWTO.
Could you share with me your WIN98 settings, or provide guidance?
Thanks,
RA

Hi Matt,
one solution that comes to my mind is:
when you get the listing of a domain, you also get the nameservers
responsible for this domain.
so how about making an nslookup for these domains using the mentioned
nameservers ?

You need create device nodes for the ports. I'm not sure if the stock
MAKEDEV script supports the ttyR's, but the install instructions should tell
you how to make them(either through MAKEDEV or mknod).

I have a linux box connected to my adsl account. When I re-boot, the
card doesn't get an ip, ie. dhcp fails at boot. I have to use the
network configurator and activate the card manually. Then I get my
connection, I verify by typing route. Anyone have any ideas?

Date: Tue, 15 Jun 1999 23:44:25 +0200
Hello wizards out there!
I am working on a little project that deals with mail files just like
the ones that sendmail stores under /var/spool/mail or so.
Now, I have come across the situation where the context of a mail is
MIME quoted-printable encoded. That leaves me with a message containing
various '=' - signs followed by a two-digit code. Now, I need to get
these hexadecimal codes converted back into the original letters, the
characters that were typed when the person composed the mail in the
first place.
I have, after hours of searching, not come across anything that would do
the job. So, does anyone know good pointers for this particular problem?
I am sure there _must_ be a solution to this, I just haven't come across
it. A *simple* shell script would be just the thing I am looking for.
:-)
When replying, I'd highly appreciate it, if you also mailed me a copy of
your solution: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Thanks a lot!!

Thanks for the script, I am sure it will be helpful. Do I just copy it
anywhere on each computer, and run them both at about the same time? And do
you / Does anybody know what the names of the Paralel ports are? Also, does
that script use standard SLIP, or CSLIP? If it uses SLIP, does anyone know
how to switch to CSLIP to speed up the network? Thanks.

Posting to ".networking;" got no answer from ".setup"...
Hi all. I've installed the latest RedHat 6.0 on a fresh system. I
setup TCPIP as I've done during other installations but this time it
didn't work. I'm not too familiar with all the files involved, etc,
other than what I've looked at as the result of reading RedHat unleashed
in an attempt to fix this problem.
Any clues would be helpful. What I have is a P90 with an SMC card, not
sure what model but its got a copyright 1994 on it. Linux found it as a
tulip. Now, I have the card connected to a switch; other systems
plugged into this switch are working fine WRT networking. The light for
the port into which my linux system is plugged does not flash at boot
even though lsmod does indicate tulip as 'loaded (unused)'. However if
I manually do a 'rmmod tulip' and then a 'insmod' tulip, the light on
the switch begins to show activity (but I can't ping out still and get
"network unreachable" scrolling up my screen . Then if I
'/etc/rc.d/rc5.d/S10network reload', the switch light goes out again.
BTW - for the purposes of getting this thing up just to know all works,
I'm using the exact TCPIP configuration parameters as another (NT)
machine plugged into the switch (and I have turned the original machine
off), so I'm pretty sure these aren't the problem.
I mean, my guess is that some net.conf script is failing somewhere and
somehow alerts tulip mod making it inactive (I mean, it does seem to get
loaded but the switch light shows no activity unless I unload and reload
the module as described). I'll leave my analysis at that and hope
somebody can decipher what I'm saying. Even ideas on how to
troubleshoot the problem would be helpful.
I will try to check in but e-mail would be really appreciated when
possible.
TIA!!

That is: the company name changes from xxxx.com to yyyy.com
What is the impact on the backbone provider?

How do i advertise the change with my backbone provider.

I may be reading your post wrong, but if it means that the winbox
quits sending ping packets to the linux then there is no problem. Win
only sends 4 or 5 then quits automatically. If however, it is the
linux box that quits pinging that si a problem, as linux will ping
until you kill it (the ping that is, not linux<G>)
On you winbox can you do a find computer and get the linuxbox?

Subject: one ppp setup??
Date: Mon, 14 Jun 1999 23:23:33 +1000
Hi all
My question is not how to get ppp working, but rather how do all the
different ppp utilities work together.
I am running rh60 with gnome and kde.
So I have an option to setup ppp using linuxconf and everything works
fine.
Now if I decide to use kde's kppp I have to enter all the settings again
(or am I doing something wrong). Why can't I pickup the configuration
already done with linuxconf. I assume that I will have the same problem
if I choose to use gnome's ppp utility or when setting up a new user.
So how can I have a single ppp setup that can be shared by all the
wonderful ppp utilities.
Thanks

ip address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
mtu 1500.
I then leave minicom w/out resetting and start pppd but it does not
connect.
There is none of the ppp garbage scrolling on the screen as should be
expected.
When I connect w/ windows it runs this program at the login prompt:

endproc
Can anyone translate this into a linux script or if someone has
