Hi All,

I was doing a quick tcpdump today on the ISDN adapter on my Redhat 5.2
machine and noticed the following appearing in almost 50% of the dump.

truncated-ip - 718 bytes missing!0.40.229.164 > 64.0.62.6: (frag
15808:732@200) [tos 0xff] [ttl 0]

Now, is this from source address 0.40.229.164 to 64.0.62.6 ? These sound
like very strange numbers.

Is this something that should alarm me ?

Thanks in advance,

Greg.

Which one is the file that contains the actual hardware settings for

My point being
a) No one in either Linux or NT camp will dispute that Solaris scales better
than either OS (if they do, they're idiots)
b) Whenever scalability is mentioned, most Linux users start talking about
Solaris, which as I pointed out != linux

There seems a lack of decent documentation on setting up ssh.
The man page tells you there are 4 places ssh looks for authorisation,
but does not tell you in what order it looks at these.
In fact it is pretty useless for this purpose.

seems to be working with the exception of a warning
message which I don't know what to do with. It is this:

X-Authentication-Warning: calypso: lk3a set sender to lk3a@calypso using -f

where 'calypso' is the name of the client machine. What is the option -f
referring to? Does anybody know where I should be looking to fix this?

Close. ;-) The correct file is /etc/host.conf.

/etc/hosts entries are of the form "[IP hostname [hostname ...]] ...",
the most common /etc/resolv.conf entries are usually "domain <some.net>"
and "nameserver <nameserver-ip>".

In the next few weeks our firm will have access to two ISDN Internet

My goal is to link the two channels so for the lan it seems that a
unique 56K * 2 line is available.

Do I necessarily have to attach two ether cards?
should I set up load balancing?
I read more about the first argument (two ether), little about load
balancing (where the docs? only in the kernel docs?)
Why I do find little or less infos about Multilink PPP (or channel
bundling)? Where should I find more?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Hey folks -

I just recently moved to RH6.0 from 5.2. Under 5.2, I didn't have one bit
of trouble with my 3Com 3c905B fastE card. Now, with the new kernel and
such, it doesn't seem to want to work correctly.

When the machine powers on, the card is in 100BT/Full mode (I can tell by
looking at the switch.) However, when the interface is actually ifconfig'd
by the OS, it drops down to 10Mb/s for some reason.

I played around with it a little under single-user mode. I loaded the 3c59x
module, then checked the switch. Still at 100BT. I did an 'ifconfig -a' ..
still at 100BT. When I did an 'ifconfig eth0 xxxx ...' it dropped down to
10Mb.

Has anyone seen this odd behavior? I know the 905B cards have been a bit
troublesome to some.

Thanks.

Carl,
To configure Proxy settings for Netscape, just look in the Preferences under the
EDIT menu. Then there should be an ADVANCED, Proxy settings. You can configure
Netscape to use the proxy server from there.

I haven't a clue, unless that refers to the apache config tool and you
forgot to install it.

2 things you have to do.

1. Make sure that the user's home directory is readable by the webserver
(default 700 will not work). Try 755 (or 775 with typical
group = username of RedHat).

2. 'mkdir public_html' as the user under the user's home dir. Check the
conf files, but I think apache is configured by default to use that.

BTW. How do I enter the I/O and IRQ? This is what I did.

I/O 0360 (300H in the card's DOS setup utility)

You don't mount COM1, you set up mgetty or another getty to use /dev/ttyS0
(ends with zero). That is the same as COM1 in DOS/Win. If it is a pnp
modem, make sure the modem itself knows what port & irq it should be
using (usually with isapnp).

I have an example of dialin using mgetty at

Look in your /etc/hosts file. You need to have machine names linked w/ IP
addresses in there. If you have RedHat, you can use Linuxconf.

Look into using the HTTP protocol for things other than web browsing.

I've read..and read..and read...I still can't figure it out.

I've got IP Masq all set up...everything's working fine..
I want to forward incoming connections to the ftp port to an internal
Win98 FTP server located at 192.168.1.2.

I know I need to forward a few different ports for it takes more than
one for ftp. Can someone please just tell me what to type?

I know it'll be something like this:

Accept Incoming ANY ftp -> 192.168.1.2 ftp

Please make this easy...no generic explainations.

Subject: WIERD NETWORK CONFIGURATION PROBLEM....
Date: Tue, 15 Jun 1999 10:11:03 -0500

Okay here is the setup.
"Bob" is computer A. WinNT server with service pack 5. He is the domain
master.
"Leonard" is computer B. A RedHat 6.0 Workstation class install with
Samba added. We also want to use leonard as an IP firewall.
"Stanley" is computer C. A RedHat 6.0 Workstation.
"Chuck" is computer D. A Windoze 95B Workstation.
"Oscar" is computer E. A Windoze 98 upgrade Workstation.

Right now they are all configured for DHCP. The internet connection
is an ADSL router. Leonard does not currently have IP masquerade set up.
The problem is that Bob and Oscar cannot log onto Leonard, He shows up
in network neighborhood but gives an incorrect password error to the
user.
Is there something wierd about NT and 98 as far as passwords go?
What do I need to edit and on what machines?
Also I have never configured IP masquerade, Any advice would be
helpful.
