Apache's default config allows anyone to create a ~/public_html dir and it
will be accessible with http://localhost/~user
You really should download the latest version of LinuxConf
(www.solucorp.qc.ca) to do system config rather than using the control panel.

Did you get error saying that /usr/sbin/pppd not setuid root? Anyway, read the
KPPP FAQ which come with KDE, it has lots of information on how to troubleshoot
your connection problem. Click on the 'Blue book with light bulb' icon on your
task bar.

Hi all,
Thanks for all the mail to fix the tulip driver.
I have another Q, I had Telnet working on the nt machine for some time
and I could telnet into the linux box. But I changed something and now
the telnet does not work. I do not know if it is a problem on the nt box
or the linux box. Could somebody tell me what/where I should be looking
to fix this problem
Thanks and Regards

Hi,
Is it possible to extract an IP address from a domain found using
the 'whois' command ?
whois produces a listing of internet username directory
but is there away of finding an IP address from the
directory addresses it finds ?
Perhaps I am looking for a 'traceroute' sting or a 'dig' string.
Any ideas ?

READ the FINE Manual, or more exact the pppd-howto.
The best way to write a script(sure about script-no PAP/CHAP?) is to connect
to your ISP via minicom and establish your connection manually (once). Then you just
write down what the ISP asks and what you have to type. Then make a script as
described in the HOWTO!
Much easier: Use kppp from KDE to connect!

Of course first you have to install xntp. However the chrony package is
actually more useful for a PC. It also sets and calibrates the real time
clock in the PC so that the Linux time when you switch the machine on is
also as correct as it can be. It is also easier to set up.
The only cases it cannot handle are if you have an atomic clock actually
attached to your machine-- then use xntp

Hi all
In a RedHat 6.0 (kernel 2.2.5) i can only set up 4 NE200 ISA cards.
If i plug 1 more "Plug & Pray" Ne2000 PCI i get this new card the in
the place of the previous eth0 (there is no eth4 with 5 cards).
If i plug 2 more i get this the eth0 and eth1
I cannot insert them as modules so i have to compile a new kernel with
ne2000 and ne2k-pci support.
wheni plug just the 4 isa cards, and try configure them as modules i
put the following lines in /etc/conf.modules
alias eth0 ne
options ne io=0x300,0x240,0x340,0x320 irq=9,3,5,4
alias eth1 ne
alias eth2 ne
alias eth3 ne
But i only get 1 of then working. How may i do this?
Is there any limitation in the number of Ethernet interfaces?
Why the PCI uses always eth0 and eth1 despite of the configuration?
apologize my poor english and thanks in advance

I can't verify this (yet), but the newest version of samba is supposed
to have decent ldap support. This is an upcoming project at work and
my boss told me what I just told you. As far as actually telling you
how to do it, sorry. When I get to it at work I'll post a follow up.

Hiya Rafo,
Interesting... I had a similar problem a few nights ago when I first started
getting the blighters hooked up. Though I don't know if I could receive
packets from the linux box because I got the win98 machine working first.
The solution that I found was in IRQ settings.
1) Get the diagnostic tool for the card and make a note of the IRQ and
memory I/O settings. Also, if it's a multiport NIC, check that it's on auto
or set to the correct cable type.
2) Go to the device manager, then the NIC properties, on the resources
tab.
3) Check for conflicts or that the entries match what the diagnostic tool
said.
I think mine went arse over tit when I installed Civ2, which somehow setup
an SB16 emulation device for my SB Live where my network card was sitting.
Good ol' win98 decides to push out my network card. Hence, the pings to the
localhost would work because they don't go to the NIC, but outgoing packets
get lost without a warning.
Good luck Raf!
Hippy.

Need your help in compiling the socks 4.2b with RH5.2
I have local ethernet (> 20 PC) and one ISP used to access Internet,
currently using ms-windows and third party software. I'm going to port
all this into Linux box.
I have downloaded the socks for proxy purpose, and installed on RH5.2
however the compilation give me error as follow :
When I issue :
/usr/local/socks/make -f Makefile
Result (part) :
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
...
in file included form Rconnect.c: 19
/usr/include/time.h:6: redifination of 'struct timeproc'
/usr/include/time.h:12: redifination of 'struct timeval'
...
make[1] *** [Rconnect.o] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving ....
make: *** [LIB] Error 2
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
where Rconnect.c is is socks42b/lib directory.
Is this mean cc/gcc did not allow redifinition to proceed ?
and where can I get the error code meaning from make ?
Is they a mail server using smtp (it alreay have - sendmail ) AND POP3 ?
and
connectible to the Internet throught my ISP dial-up line ? (sure local
line
use ethernet )
Last, how to I set up my linux box as a Internet Gateways ? (no firewall is
ok)
( squid ? no man , inconsistent docs from squid.nlanr.com with squid
installed on RH5.2 )
( BTW, it seem Linux do not come with working proxy/gateway to the Internet
by default, what's
your comment ? )
Thank

I have a box with 7 network cards and an 8 port digiboard (Xr920).
However, the network cards are:
2 - 3Com 10/100 3c515 ISA
eth4
eth5
2 - 3Com 10/100 3c905b PCI
eth2
eth3
1 - 3Com 10 3c509b ISA
eth6
2 - Olicom Token Ring
eth0
eth1
8 - Digiboard ports
/dev/ttyD0 - /dev/ttyD7
2 - serial ports
/dev/ttyS0 and /dev/ttyS1
I had some trouble getting everything working, but I finally ended up
with the Olicom cards compiled into the kernel and then the others as
insmod modules. I could not get aliasing working with the token ring
(and yes, they come up as eth not tr devices). So, I use aliasing on
the 3Com 10/100 PCI cards.
Everything is in append in /etc/lilo.conf
Let me know if you need more information.
