Try doing an nslookup youname.mydomain.com.au and see what you get,
Then nslookup www.mydomain.com.au and see what you get.
My guess is that something here will not resolve.
My guess is that dns is not configured correctly to let your virtualhost
directives work.
The virtualhost entries look ok for the web server side of things.

On rh6.0 the file /etc/lpd.conf controls all the options for lpr/lpd -> check
in there that the banner page is not turned on-> if it is then the lpr -h
option is ignored and you will always get a banner page after the printout .
After changing the file you will have to stop/start the printer daemon.

Why are you doing this? If your ISP supports Windows 95/98/NT/whatever,
they likely do not require that chat script. (No Windows user alive is
able to cope with a chat script.) So, the trick is to put your userid and
password in the /etc/ppp/pap-secrets file and to start the pppd as soon as
your modem is connected to the other modem. You may need to set the
option "-chap" in the options for the pppd for this to work. (Then again,
you may not. It depends upon how your ISP is set up.)
This sets up your system to authenticate using PAP. Once that happens,
the other end will assign you an IP address, PPP figures this part out
automagically, and life will be wonderful.

If you can't get connected, you're not going to be able to find the proxy
server. Even if you can, why don't you try it without the proxy. If you
can get connected to the Internet, I suspect it'll work just fine for you.
You may also have to modify your /etc/resolv.conf file to add their
nameservers. If they won't tell you what they are, don't worry---you
don't need their namesevers, just set up your own DNS server. Once you do
that, you set your resolv.conf to 127.0.0.1 and it'll work just fine.

What do you mean "DNS database" and "DNS cache"? Do you mean the
named.(boot|conf) and <stuff>.hosts (aka "zone") files? It might help to
know what you want the information for. Is it just to set up a DNS
server, or do you have something else in mind?
If all you need to see is a conf file and a zone file, that's easy.

Hi, I'm having troubling getting my network PCMCIA card to work. I'm
running kernel 2.2.5-15 and pcmcia-cs 2.2.5-22. The cardctl status
gives:
Socket 0:
5V 16-bit card present
Function 0: ready
Cardctl ident gives:
Socket 0:
production info: "3Com Corporation", "3C589D", TP/BNC LAN Card Ver.

manfid: 0x0101, 0x0589
function: 6 (network)
I configured ip/gateway etc, the same as dual boot Win95 and all I can
ping in localhost and system ip all others don't respond. The lights on
the hub do flash so I know it's alive. The device in linuxconf is set
to eth0 and no kernel module.
any suggestions? Thanks,

I tried that. After having it up for a couple of weeks, I wasn't convinced
I was getting everything I was expecting. I was going to look into it, but
I came to realize that it's probably not the best method of getting
newsgroups for only 1-2 people. I figure it like this. I probably
actually read 5% of the messages in maybe 20 newsgroups. So, for every
message I actually read, I'm downloading 20 messages.
Not too efficient.
And I never quite understood that "try reading a newsgroup today, and in a
week you'll start seeing messages there" bit. But again, I haven't realy
looked into it. I was more expecting that if I put a list of newsgroups in
somewhere (or attempt read through newsreader), then I'd start seeing
messages the next day (after fetchnews runs).
Cheers,
C

My cable modem connection is working fine in win95. My red hat 5.1 box
seems to recognize my ethernet card fine (3Com 509b isa card), and
attempt to make use DHCP to get network settings. It fails every time.
I tried to use the settings that DHCP was using in windows, but that
didn't work either. Is there any reason that DHCP would not work in
linux? thanks for your help.

Could anybody tell the minimum Settings for the Apache WebServer to:

- and letting every user make use of it (everybody can have all the
permissions)
(I don't have the time and not the need of a professional Apache Server,
I've got that O'Reilly Book, but I think it is difficult to understand,

But what should I be running on the Linux box? Apache has a module for
proxy, squid sounds like it might be what I'm looking for, and
IPMasquerading sounds like ever so much fun....Frankly, I can't figure

because it will do the resolving on the first, and (hopefully) the data
transfer on the second connection.

Subject: Network Printing Trouble
Date: Wed, 30 Jun 1999 14:27:30 GMT
Hi,
I have a few Linux boxes networked together.. (running RH 6.0) I'm
trying to setup a network printer, its an HP 1100 LaserJet.. It prints
just fine to the local machine its plugged into, but the other boxes on
my network can't print to it... I'm not sure if you have to
specifically set the machine up as a "print server" or not..
when I do an "lpc status lp" I get the following
on the remote:
waiting for queue to be enabled on 10.10.0.29
on the other machine (with the printer)
printing enabled
queueing enabled
daemon not started
please help--- :-)
Thank You in advance for any help...

/etc/hosts is great for Linux, if all you have is Linux, sure, why not. What
about those Wintel machines, though? They can't use /etc/hosts. That's why I
have a DNS server.

I would like to offer ftp services to specific users. However, I
would not like them to be able to browse my entire filesystem. How
can I limit them to their $HOME and nothing else?
I am using wu-ftpd and RH 6.0

But you are saved from having to explicitly select which groups and which
threads within those groups that you wish to read. Simply read your newsgroups
and let leafnode cope with the messy bits.

As I see it, it works like this.
1. Install leafnode.
2. Run fetch. Only the list of newsgroups is downloaded.
3. Subscribe to alt.newsgroup and read leafnode's dummy article.
Leafnode is now aware that you are interested in alt.newsgroup.
4. Run fetch. The initial download of articles from alt.newsgroup (could
number less than your default maximum if so configured) takes place.
5. Read alt.newsgroup.
6. Run fetch. Leafnode will download threads (up to a set maximum number of
articles if so configured) from alt.newsgroup that it has seen you are
interested in. Threads you don't read will be eventually dropped.
Steps 5 & 6 continue forever unless you stop reading all threads in
alt.newsgroup which will result in that group being dropped completely at
some point.
All you have to do is run fetch and expire at regular intervals and read
your newsgroups.
