Hi,
be sure to use the same netmask (255.255.255.0) on both machines.
Check the cable. TP-cables uses pins 1,2,3 and 6.

yes, it is, i use it every day with same env. (though not same provider)

I have had the same problem. I do not understand what was happening either and would
like to know as well. I did find a solution however. I was using RH5.2 and by
switching to Slackware I was able to get both of them to work. I would rather be
using RH, but until I find out how to get the two NIC's to work with it I guess I will
be learning Slackware as well. All I had to do was setup /etc/conf.modules and
/etc/rc.c/rc.inet1 files with Slackware and they both worked. I would be very
interested in kno
wing both what Linux version you are using and if/how you got them to work. Feel free
to e-mail me.

I have my machine set up as a gateway between my LAN and the internet
(cable modem connection). I would like to find a network utility
(preferably X-Windows based) that can give me a rundown on the current
status of my gateway.
Specifically, I would like to know what connections are currently open,
and what transfer rates my other machines are getting on their connections
through the gateway.
Does anyone know of anything like this (or even something that might do
some of what I am asking for)?
Thanks in advance,

I got the same problem but instead of your message I don't get the "IRQ
10" in /proc/pci.
When I try to load the module it says : IRQ0 in unlikely to work ! and
sometimes the systems hangs up !
I tried using the 3c509bTx card with and without a aha152x scsi card,
and as a module and compiled in the kernel. I have a HP vectra VL
computer. I tried also to fix the IRQ of the PCI slot to 10 in the bios.
What can I do ?

That is, I hope, a feature of an implementation, not the language;
even Java, which takes nanny-state handholding to new extremes,
doesn't dare specify how a compile should proceed as part of the

Subject: Problems with virtual Interfaces
Date: 7 Jul 1999 12:01:25 GMT
Hi,
Ich have a Linux-Server, who needs two IPs.
It is an out-of-othe-box RedHat 5.2-System, Kernel 2.0.36.
Installing the Interface was no problem ... but reaching it.
Within the same Subnet all other Clients can not access the virtual IP.
But for some time after they established a connection to the "real" IP of
this server, they can connect to the virtual IP.
But after some time, these connects again fail.
So in the moment the only way to access the virtual IP is to connect
(always from the same host) to the real IP.
I have set up the virtual IP with ifconfig, after that I added a route.
(It is eth0:1).
Any suggestions ?
Sincerely, Claus Bitten
