Not quite. They wear more padding IIRC (I could easily wrong on that)
and the bat is bigger (Bad aim, perhaps?).

Rounders was harder because you had a much smaller bat.

Subject: pppd - dynamic IP ? HELP
Date: Thu, 08 Jul 1999 17:06:11 GMT
Hi,
My system has RH6.0 (kernel 2.2.7, pppd 2.3.7). I dial out to two ISPs using
kppp.
pppd connects to the ISP, but cannot get the dyanamic local IP address for
one ISP. The same configuration with RH5.1 and older pppd used to work very
well.
I would appreciate some help in solving this problem.
Regards
Sreenivasa
Here is the debug output of pppd for both the ISP connection processes
for the ISP when dynamic IP allocation is done.

Use FEATURE(`mailertable') in *.mc file you use to generate
your sendmail.cf, with the following mailertable file:
# default route
. smtp:mail.my.isp
# send email to hosts/subomains of corp, com directly no MX lookup
.corp.com smtp:[%1%0]

Spelling flames are lame. But, that being said, you should get a spell
checker yourself. You completely missed the use of "Perl" instead of
"Pearl".

I'm using a Linux firewall on a cablemodem. Every once in a while, I
lose my address. My firewall script deals with this properly --
flushing and rerunning the rules -- but I have to update my dhs.org
records by hand.
Does anyone know of a scripted method of doing this?
Thanks!
Jack.

Subject: CHAP script file permissions - confused!
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Dave Esquer)
Date: Thu, 08 Jul 1999 17:32:13 GMT
Greetings from a newbie Windoze refuge! (the quotations below are to keep
myself organized, I know root is root and not "root")
After much mucking around, I have a technique to log into my MCIWorld CHAP
account. They (MCIWorld) said it couldn't be done - really they said we can't
help you, go away. Anyway...
I'm trying to let the "user" fire up a ppp script rather than having to be the
"root" all the time ( a bad idea, I think) and typing in a long complicated
/usr/bin/pppd /dev/tty... command to start my ppp session. Since this is a
standalone machine and I am the only person using the machine, I think its OK
for "user" to have access to PPP. All the ideas and scripts came from
axion.physics.ubc.ca/ppp-linux.html
my users: "root" and "dave"
my scripts: pppon and chatscript (both created as "root" user with emacs)
pppon script has a line: "/usr/sbin/pppd /dev/ttyS1 .... "chat -f
$HOME/chatscript"
and chatscript dials the ISP number and sets init strings to the modem.
Now the confusion, these are the commands (from the axion paper) to let other
users (hopefully "dave") access the pppon script:
1. mv pppon /usr/bin : worked ok, file in /usr/bin
2. chmod a+rx /usr/bin/pppon : worked ok too, permission changed
3. chown <user> chatscript :here I substituted dave for <user>, worked ok
4. su <user> : I did su dave
: I checked and chatscript
: has the permissions "-rw-r--r-- dave root
chatscript"
5. mv chatscript $HOME : ERROR message
: mv:cannot unlink 'chatscript': permission
denied
: mv: cannot remove 'chatscript': permission
denied
6. chmod go-rwx $HOME/chatscript : never got to this command!
The way I understand this stuff (not very well obviously) is that as user
"dave" I should be able to type in a terminal window "pppon" and the whole
process should start.
I'm stuck, confused and very tired (but enjoying the learning curve!). What am
I doing wrong/setting permissions wrong or ... in line 5? The $HOME shell
variable thing is representative of /home/dave/? or something like that?
Getting closer every day and TIA,
Dave

If you have them setup as "virtual hosting" than you only need to find
someone (or some isp) that will run forward dns for your domain names,
pointing them to the static ip of your linux box. The forward and reverse
dns entries for your static ip will not matter if you are using host headers
to host your web sites (as opposed to ip-based web hosting).

I was having similar problems with NFS until some *genius* whose name I have
lost sent me email telling me to try setting my ethernet connection to half
duplex. I had it set for full duplex and my cheapo hub wasn't doing the switching.
I had no problems with my LAN until I moved up to the 2.2 kernel.
If that *genius* reads this, you have my profound thanks.

Hello All,
I have a question that I am hoping somone can help me with. I am using
RedHat 5.2 as a firewall/gateway between my cable modem and a small 3 pc
network in my home. I recentley decided to add a modem to the linux
machine and use it as a dialup server for remote internet connect. I
seem to have gotten everything to work OK except I can not Telnet, FTP,
or WWW anything out past eth0 from the remote PC. At first I thought I
had a routing problem, but I can ping anything on my local network and
on the internet using both ip numbers and domain names? I can Telnet,
FTP, and WWW on the internal from the remote also. I think I need to add
some rules to rc.firewall but I have no clue what they would be. I have
read everything I can find on the subject but I still have no clue. Its
probably somthing simple that I am missing. My eth0 uses DHCP and eth1
is 192.168.1.1 and all of my internal machine point to that address. If
anyone can help please let me know.
Thanks Ted Goodwin
