Hi,

I am a bit confused with the difference between subneting and ip masquerading
Are they the same, in term of performing the same function?

Thanks.

Subject: Adding a 2nd NIC
Date: Fri, 09 Jul 1999 07:01:49 GMT

I added a second NIC to a box running Debian 2.0, Kernel 2.0.36.
When I started the computer, the 2nd NIC was detected ok. However,
we I ran ifconfig to set it up, I got this

# ifconfig eth1 inet 203.132.11.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadca
st 203.132.11.255
SIOCSIFFLAGS: Resource temporarily unavailable

When I ran 'ifconfig eth0' and 'ifconfig eth1', both NICs were working
fine.

Do you have any suggestion?

Thank you very much.

Clement

You must install the via-rhine card.
This card is include in the RedHat Package (5.2 or 6.0).

RedHat doesn't recognize this card during the install.
You must compile the kernel or create a module for install it.

Subject: Routing once again, help !
Date: Fri, 09 Jul 1999 07:15:10 GMT

Hi !!!

I post it second time - hope anyone could help me.

I got Frame Relay connection to my firm and
I'm trying to configure my Linux (RH6.0) to work as a www and mail server.
I've got IP adressess from 212.244.195.88-95 and my router
works on 212.244.195.88 (192.168.168.168 on the local side).
And when I do :

ifconfig eth0 212.244.195.90 netmask 255.255.255.248 up
route add -net 192.168.168.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 eth0
route add default gw 192.168.168.168 eth0

www server is seen on the internet but I can't get in from
my LAN.
I suppose the problem is becouse of netmask 255.255.255.248
When I changed it to 255.255.255.0 it worked ok. But I'm not
quitely sure if I should do this way.
.
Thanx for any help

Final questions regarding the problems I had with propagation delay.

Now my domain works.

Yesterday I asked also for DNS wildcards (so that any subdomains
whatever.mydomain.com is redirected to my domain).
My provider created DNS wildcards for me, but they do not work yet!

So my question is: s there a propagation delay (around 3 days)
also for DNS wildcards sbudomains?!
(That seems strange to me).

Thanks for your help

Not really - it still isn't actually descriptive of the event. Why not
call it the Galactic Series? After all, it's the only place in the galaxy
that plays baseball as far as we know...

It may be the pinnacle of baseball, but that doesn't mean that "World" is
an appropriate title.

Hi,

I've just setup a linux offline mailserver and have had it working for two
days without problems. But as of today whenever sendmail is run
regardless of parameters I always get the message...

"Cannot bind to map mail.aliases in domain: Request arguments bad"

I have no idea what this means. I am relatively new at linux but have
used unix in the past and I have no idea what its complaining about. I
thought it might have lost my aliases database but its still there and so
is the pointer in the sendmail.cf file.

Any ideas? I'm getting quite desperate.

This seems to happen for systems using a STREAMS implementation of the
tty drivers, such as all SVR4 derived systems and AIX4.x.

Another regular case is the tape rewind on close and the tape driver
somehow misses the rewind complete interrupt.

Subject: Proxy arp does not work
Date: Fri, 09 Jul 1999 08:38:22 GMT

Proxy arp does not work under 2.2.x and 2.3.x. I've dug through
the code (and put debugging printk's) enough to know that it can never
work. There are several things wrong.

First, the /proc display of the arp table is hosed. It will never
print the correct arp entry: the interface HW address for
proxy/published arp entries. I've managed to correct this fairly easily.
It works now for me. I'll post the changes file once I fix the other
problems.

Second, the ioctl functions that add the arp entries are hosed. They
will never add the publish/proxy arp entry properly. I've managed to
correct this as well. I removed support for netmasks, but these aren't
officially supported by newer kernels anyway.

Third, the ioctl functions that delete the published/proxty arp
entries are hosed. They will never delete a proxy arp entry correctly.
I'm currently working on a fix for this. I expect to complete this
tomorrow or this weekend.

Fourth, the actual arp_response code does not handle proxy arp
situations correctly. Even if you add, display and delete your
proxy arp entries correctly, the arp system will not publish the
arp entries at all. This is the last thing that I plan to fix.

Once these four problems are solved, I plan to post and submit the
patch to the appropriate people.

The user space arp program also needs a minor cosmetic fix too. A
single line change.

If someone would like to volunteer (all you static NAT people, speak
up!) to test the patches, please send me email at
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

   Thanks.

Um, are you suggesting that over 8 million US civilians died in WW2?
That's the only way that the US WW2 casualties would amount to more than
the population of the UK...

This one certainly does:

http://www.geocities.com/Athens/5268/casualty.html

However, it doesn't mention there being a significant number of
US civilian deaths...

Hi,

I am trying to make PHP [I am willing to use it with MySQL,
IMAP and Apache.] Following is my box specs:

Redhat 4.1 kernel 2.0.34
Apache 1.3.6
MySQL 3.22.24

Initially when I was trying to create Makefile, I was
getting error that /usr/include/mail.h is missing. I copied
that from the IMAP distribution. Then, during the same

Hi everyone out there,

I'm running Rh 4.1 (I know its out of date, but this is the only release
I could get to work on my 486) and
am now trying to set this box up as a dial out server. ppp is running
when I connect via normal ppp-on script to my ISP. named and firewalling
is also ok. My problem now is that whe I use diald for automate dialing
in to the ISP in ppp mode, diald starts pppd and then pppd gets stuck. I
see on the modem that my ISP is sending me LCP packets, but pppd is not
responding, it seems to hang somewhere. There is also no ppp device
created. For diald I'm using one of the sample scripts that came with
the documentation (diald-0.16.5).
Is there any option that is really neccessary to get this working?

Thanks for your help

Hi

Make sure to have no spaces after: order host, bind. Coz this results
often in such a behavior you described.
