Subject: Linux and MS-proxy 2

We've got a linux here in NT-environment. We have a NT gateway running
MS-proxy 2.
Because employees here can only use http, people have to authorize at
the gateway. We've installed the linux box correctly and everything
works fine if we use the internal network (filesharing, printsharing).
The only thing that doesn't work is getting outside with the linux box.
I added a default route to the gateway and when I trace a route to an
IP outside it resolves this IP on one of our internal nameservers, It
connects to the internal adress of the gateway (192.9.201.12), then the
external IP of the gateway is displayed and it continues by displaying
***.
When I start netscape and connect to the outside world, it aks for a
proxy-authentication.
How do I setup linux so I can use the proxy and authenticate itself. Or
how do I setup the proxy that I give the linux box full internet acces,
without changing everything for the rest of the users?

Linux Geniuses!

I was wondering if you could help me and my school solve out linux/Nt
networking headache.
The school is running a NT4.0 server that has four network cards that are
connected to hubs that are located in the school. its IP is 10.15.16.1 and
the other cards IP's are 10.15.64.1, 10.15.48.1, 10.15.32.1, etc. The Nt
server acts as a gateway for traffic from these subnets. We are all using
DHCP assigned addresses but I reserved one for the linux box 10.15.64.7.
What I can ping is 10.15.16.1 the Server and the computers on the subnets
because I passed this route command "route add default gw 10.15.16.1" and
the it goes! The Ntserver is connected to another server running WinProxy
and it has 2 network cards, this computer handles the internet. I cannot
ping It! It's address is 10.15.0.1 the windowz boxes on the subnets can but
I cant! (dont worry my DNSes are set and everything) this Proxybox is a
router to the net it's other Ethernet card is connected to the net (complex
100mbit stuff, not important) it's IP is 10.15.88.1. I need to figure out
how to set my route in linux to be able to ping the ProxyBox and then travel
to the internet. Can you offer any advice? Also the Proxybox is running
WinProxy for web and ftp transfers...do I have to worry about it? any thing
that I am required to set?
I am using RedHat 5.2 with kernel 2.0.36 and an eepro100 network card on a
pentium pro.

Thank-you in advance!

Hi there,

I want to run Squid 2 as a hierarchical cache (child).
The parent Server listens on port 80 and nothing else, so how ist the
cache_peer to be configured ?

e.g. my machine is proxy.foo.foobar.org, and the parent is proxy.foobar.org.

My machine gets the client requests on port 80, as the parent chache would do.
but I cannot connect to it...

tinyproxy runs perfectly with this configuration, but it doesnt cache :(

any ideas ?

Thanx in advance
Markus

I have a linux machine setup and running Sendmail and Fetchmail. It seems
to work very well together until a group of people started using an external
mailling list. What happens is that the message comes into the server with
the to: address of the mailing list as in the original message from the
sender. But because fetchmail tries to read this instead of the
envelope-to: address it fails and ends up sending the mail to the
postmaster. Is there any way to force fetchmail to read the envelope-to
address first?

Any help or insights would be greatly appreciated.

As long as you'll see '6.0' everywhere on their website, I don't think
it is.

Hello,

Just wondering if anyone has been able to use a CDRW connected to a Linux
machine on a Winblows machine using Samba? I'm able to share my files with
no problems but couldn't find anything about sharing a CDRW in the
documentation. A little off the subject, I even tried setting up VMWare in
order to do a windoze to windoze share but VMWare supports CD's, only (I
hear they're going to support CDRW in a future version, though). Any help
would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Rick.

Sorry, I forgot that I suid root my ncpmount binary ;-)

So, the correct instructions for the above part are:

As root, execute...

    ncpmount -S servername -U username -V volumename /mntpoint

As root, execute...

    /sbin/ipx_configure --auto_primary=on --auto_interface=on

As any user (doesn't have to be root), execute...

    ncpmount -S servername -U username -V volumename /mntpoint

...where you, of course, substitute servername, username, volumename,
/mntpoint for appropriate values.(You will be prompted for a password.)

In /etc/rc.d/rc.local, add the following lines...

  if [ -f /sbin/ipx_configure ]; then
    echo "Turning on IPX"
    /sbin/ipx_configure --auto_primary=on --auto_interface=on

Now every time you boot your machine, IPX will be configured.

To use ncpmount, as root type

    ncpmount -S server -U user /mntpoint

(substitute 'server', 'user', and '/mntpoint' with the appropriate
values... note that you will be prompted for a password for the novell
user 'user'.
