Would you need to update your hosts.allow and hosts.deny entries to take
account of the changes?

Hi. Question may be newbie so patience please :)

I'm running standard RH 5.2, which on top I installed Squid.2.2-Stable4.

I got everything else working (compile was a breeze, even access-control
didn't give too much hard time) but for the life of it, I can't
figure out why SSL requests stop.

It is a combined firewall-proxy-setup, so my theory is that
firewall somehow and -why is stopping SSL connect, however
since squid sees beyond firewall how is this possible??

Logs show no activity of any kind for https-requests.

here are my access controls (really defaults, only my
own IPs added).

Linux only checks for one card.
You can compile the second card as a module and do a "insmod module_name"
after startup.
Or tell the kernel to look for a 2nd card; read the boot-prompt howto

Your problem might be dns-related. Post the output of
nslookup win95-2
nslookup win95-3
nslookup 20.0.0.2
nslookup 20.0.0.3

btw; you should use ip-addresses mentioned in rfc1918 (192.168.x.x or
10.x.x.x), but that is not related to your problem

Hi,

Any body know how to enable root login from a telnet session in RH6.0?

Yes, I knew you can add /dev/ttyp? or something similiar to
/etc/securetty. It works for most case, likes RH5.2 or other
distribution but just not work for RH6.0.

Does anybody using RH6.0 and know how to get it?

I have 2 network cards and 1 modem in a Linux Box with RH6.
My cable modem uses the modem to start a PPP session, and the network card
is then hooked up to the VPN of the ISP.

I would like to setup a IP Masquraded Firewall to hook some of my other
boxes
behind the firewall.

I cannot find a HOW-TO to setup the Linux box using this type of Cable
Modem. I
have only found 2 way cable modems. Can someone point me it the right
direction.

My problem is that I don't know how to get Linux connected, then also, how
do I configure
ipchains or ipfwadm to use the correct rule set. Do I do the modem or the
network card. The
network card has a static IP of 10.0.0.1 which is usally used for VPNs. My
cable company
is of corse not supporting Linux, so I have to do it myself. The PPP dialup
uses DHCP to
assign my address so I have dhcp setup.

Thanks in advance..

Hi there. I'm a newbie and I'm trying to get the via-rhine driver to
compile for my d-link NIC. I use the line included in the source :

"gcc -DMODULE -D__KERNEL__ -I/usr/src/linux/net/inet -Wall
-Wstrict-prototypes -06 -c via-rhine.c `[-
f /usr/include/linux/modversions.h
] && echo -DMODVERSIONS`"

but I get a problem which no one in any other docs/postings I've read
seems to mention:

-06 unrecognized option. Now, in the source it says to use oh six rather
than zero six - this was apparently a mistake. I get the same error which
ever I use. I'm using redhat 6.0, kernel 2.2.5-15 glibc2.1

Can any one help?

If by "recompiling the entire kernel with the new driver source" you mean
you compiled the driver into the kernel proper (not as a module), then
it's possible that the system is hanging when it encounters an older
modular driver for the same thing. Try removing it from the
/lib/modules/{version}/net/ directory.

I have just tested your recommendation but it didn't work either.

I am really going mad. Is there a bug in Linux's PPP? My Linux PPP client work when
connection to NT RAS. My Linux PPP server works when win95 is connecting to it. How
comes my Linux PPP client and Linux PPP server can't connect? I really don't
understand.

I use tcpdump at both side when pinging from client to server. It is displayed on
client side but not server side. vice versa. It seems lower layer protocol can't make
it. Since netstat -i shows a lot of RX-ERR.

Hello everyone,

I was looking for comments on Linux friendly ISPs, i.e.
ISPs that offer support and help with Linux setup OR
"standard" ppp scripts without much tweaking can be used
to connect. In particular, I'd like to know how good the
following ISPs are :

1. Earthlink
2. Att World Net
3. Compuserve

(these are the ones that have local access numbers in my area).

I presently use Prodigy, but their connection speeds are very slow.
Comments about other ISPs are also welcome.

(BTW, I was shocked to learn that MSN does not have a 800 number
tech support. On second thoughts, I should have expected a
  900 number !!!).

Thanks in advance for your time.

Hi All,

When I tried to compile a program written using BSD staffs, it was giving
compilation errors listed below :
 1. Could not find netinet/ip_tcp.h & netinet/protocols.h

 2. When I found in /usr/include/netinet that those .h files are missing
then I included netinet/tcp.h to get the defn of struct tcphdr and I
replaced the
protocol value from IP_TCP to 6 in my source code. Then it gave errors
saying it could not understand the members of that struct.

3. Then went thru tcp.h and found two defns of tcphdr, one for BSD and
other
linux specific and changed the code according to the linux specific defn
of
tcphdr. finally it compiled, and ran successfully.

Now can somebody tell me how can I compile my original code successfully in
Linux. And why those two files are missing in /usr/include/netinet
directory??

Thanks in Advance.
