Which version would that be?

doing rpm -q java I get java-1.1.7v1a-9
I use SuSE 6.1 with kernel 2.2.10

This is the MediaOne service. Same thing I've got and have had running
for 2 weeks now.

Where are you trying to connect from? Are you saying that telnet and
ftp connections from inside your network are being rejected whereas http
connections are accepted?

If you're offline, then all connections from outside will be rejected.
That much should be obvious.

Maybe just a little bug in pppd 2.3.8. I saw appended small patch on a
site about PPtP.

tcgetattr almost always means that there is another process besides
pppd that is contending for the modem IRQ. Some examples are (1) an
ethernet card that used the same IRQ as the modem, (2) a misconfigured
ppp script that launched pppd twice, and (3) a mingetty that somehow
had been configured for call-in.

The fix is to use another IRQ for the modem or for the device that the
other process is using.

Hi Malcolm,

I've also been dialing into an NT RAS server at work. I'm using Mandrake
5.2 and kppp with CHAP. I tried Mandrake 6.0 and could not make CHAP work
at all. I was forced to go back to 5.2 so I could dial into work from
home.

I agree with all you say - well except that I really don't believe you're

The tcpdump shows ping data when pinging from client to server and
netstat -i shows RX errors at the server - right? The vice versa I take
to mean that tcpdump shows ping data on the server when pinging from
the server to the client and netstat -i shows RX errors at the client.

I still can't explain what's going on. But try using the pppd option
kdebug 7 on whichever box the RX errors appear with some Linux-to-Linux
test scenario. This produces a hex dump of all the link negotiations
and all the data sent and received by pppd. It's a last resort but
maybe that can shed some light on what's happening.

The client link negotiation log in your post that followed this one
looked entirely normal.

I just installed the RedHat 6.0. When I was installing the RedHat6.0, I

chose "static IP address" and put in the IP address and other required

Subject: Cnet pro120c ether card with tulip driver
Date: Sun, 25 Jul 1999 01:49:07 +0300

Hi,
Is there any one using CNET PRO120(C) 10/100 ether card without
problems?
It uses Macronix 98715 chip which uses tulip driver. I have two machines
(both RedHat 6.0, one is kernel 2.2.5-15, other is 2.2.5-22, and both
machines use the same pro120(c) card) connected via cross UTP. Installed
latest tulip driver (tried both 0.91 and 0.91g)
Two machines can ping each other. I have also stress tested by "ping
-f -s 16760" observing upto 60Mbps thruput. Also traceroute works as
usual. Also tftp (UDP) works. So far so good..
But any attempt to use rlogin, telnet, http or nfs hangs. Telnet goes as
far as establishing connection but it also hangs there without prompting
for login. Tftp works good, but sometimes transfer rate goes as low as
few 100 bits/sec. Successful PAM messages for rlogin attempts are logged
in remote machine's /var/log/messages file (login session opened for...)
but nothing happens at connecting side.
/etc/hosts.equiv and ~/.rhosts files allright. I also renamed
/etc/securetty, so that root can login from outside.
These symptoms go for both root and non-root users.

I cannot explain this behavior. I also have a Redhat 6.0 (at work) with
some other ether card (3com something as I remember) which works
normally. The most suspecting difference between the machines at work
and home is the ether cards.

So I really would like to know whether there is anybody out there
successfully using this card.

Thanks

Windows 95/98/NT have _never_ supported a recycle bin on network
drives, even if your talking about a completely Microsoft network
(i.e., no Linux, Samba, Netware, etc. involved). I'm afraid that what
you want to do is not supported.

To send me email, replace 'nospam' with 'home'.

Ted,

Did you input the DNS info?
